A high density mother/daughter circuit board connector utilizes a multi-layer flat flexible circuit, each layer of which contains a plurality of patterned arrays of circuit paths extending between spaced contact points, at least some of which are exposed through apertures in overlying layers. The multi-layered circuitry is wrapped around a housing from a mother circuit board face to extend into one side of a daughter board receiving recess. Camming means arranged in the opposite side of the recess drive a daughter circuit board inserted therein transversely of the recess into loaded engagement with the multi-layer circuitry thereby establishing electrical interconnection between the circuitry of the mother and daughter circuit boards.

High density mother/daughter circuit board connector

Electrical connector comprises a plurality of terminals having respective elongate plate portions which are mounted in parallel on a dielectric base. Each plate has a like plurality of wire receiving slots at like spacing, the slots of adjacent plates forming a like plurality of rows of slots, whereby wires in a planar array may be laid over respective rows and terminated to the plates as desired. A programmable tool for accomplishing termination is also disclosed.

Matrix connector

Tool for terminating a plurality of wires to a matrix of wire receiving slots in a connector comprises a housing having a cover hinged thereto and nest means therein movable perpendicularly to said housing. The cover has a plurality of wire inserters extending from the bottom surface thereof toward the nest means, each inserter being slidable to a like plurality of positions. The nest means is profiled to hold the connector so that the matrix of slots parallels the array of inserters, whereby a plurality of parallel wires may be terminated to slots as desired by moving said nest with connector and wires therein toward said cover with inserters appropriately positioned.

Shielded electrical connector for flat cable with shielded signal conductors and drain wires has terminal housing with terminals for signal conductors sandwiched between connector shield members. Bottom shield member has upstanding flange flanked by coplanar tabs; flange contacts exposed cable shield and tabs have slots for terminating drain wires. Top shield member has upstanding flange which contacts exposed shield opposite flange on bottom member and upstanding tabs flanking the flange in parallel planes perpendicular to the plane of said tabs on said bottom member. Tabs on top member flex inward against tabs on bottom member until inward facing detents on bottom tabs latch into apertures in top tabs.

Shielded electrical connector for flat cable

Joystick switch has a shaft mounted through an elastomeric member in a support fixed to a circuit board. A spring surrounding the shaft between the support member and the board urges a sliding contact plate, carried loosely on the inner end of the shaft, against one or more contacts on the board as a handle on the opposite end of the shaft is moved laterally. Contacts, circuit traces, and pins on the board are die cast zinc.

Joystick switch

A high current connector system is disclosed for use with photovoltaic modules of the type employed by the solar energy industry. The connector provides quick and positive means of connecting an array of solar cells in a module to a common bus and with a harness connector. The connector is configured to protect against inadvertent electrical shock during mating or unmating of the connector. The connector plug member has a two stage assembly which in the first stage allows for free passage for a conductor through the plug housing and in the second assembly stage provides an environmentally sealed condition for the plug with the seal also serving as a strain relief for the conductor.

High current contact system for solar modules

The disclosed symmetrical plug and socket connector may be installed in a solar panel array so that the connector is directed towards the adjacent panel for forming an interconnect by the shortest possible route. The connector socket is an elongated, substantially rectangular housing having a groove formed about the entire periphery thereof adjacent one side and an annular bore extending substantially the length of the housing with its axis parallel to and spaced from the plane defined by the groove. A male contact, having a rectangular solder tab with a tine extending symmetrically and normal thereto, is mounted on the housing with the solder tab lying against a surface of the socket portion and the tine extending into the bore. The plug has a configuration adapted to intermate with the socket portion in an aligned condition and has a crimp ring providing both sealing and strain relief for the high pressure contact terminal carried thereby. The plug also carries sealing means forming a sealed engagement in the mated condition. The connector can include polarizing means as well as latching means.

Symmetrical connector for solar panel arrays

A transition block connector for use in interconnecting flat conductors and round conductors which provides a minimum connection profile. The connector employs formed contacts which pierce the flat conductor insulation to establish electrical contact without conductor damage, and standard round wire screw type termination.

Transition block for terminating flat conductors

The disclosure is directed to a pre-assembled liquid tight connector for use with flexible jacketed metallic conduit. The connector is comprised of a body member, an electrical ground sleeve, an O-Ring and a gland nut which are assembled as a single unit by flaring the ground sleeve over the body member. The end product is a unitized liquid tight connector which is easy to apply.

Cross connect system for communications conductors comprises a cable connector which is mated with a cross connection connector. The cable connector has double ended terminals extending therethrough which have wire receiving portions on one end and receptacle portions on their other end. The conductors of the cables are electrically connected to the wire receiving portions of the terminals and the receptacle portions of the terminals are in alignment with cavities which extend through the cross connection connector. A plurality of connector assemblies are mounted in a panel-like member with the cables connected to the terminals in the cable connectors on one side of the panel. Cross connections between the conductors in the cables are made by means of jumper wires which have plug terminals on their ends. The plug terminals are inserted through the cavities in the cross connection connector and mated with the receptacle portions of the terminals in the cable connectors.

Selective interconnection system and connector

Connecting device which is intended to be installed on a conductor comprises rotatable male and female parts having conductor receiving bores extending therethrough. The bores are eccentric relative to the axis of rotation of the parts so that the opening defined by the bores is constricted when the parts are rotated relative to each other thereby to establish an electrical connection with the conductor. The invention is characterized by its simplicity, ease of manufacture, and by the fact that it can be applied to the conductor without the need of specialized tools.

Eccentric bore connecting device

An apparatus is disclosed for electrically connecting groups or bundles of wires to each other by means of a connector which has a plurality of displation type contacts therein arranged in parallel rows. The apparatus comprises a frame having means thereon for holding the connector and a wire guide means for locating the wires in alignment with the terminals in the connector. The wires are trimmed and inserted by means of a roller which is mounted on the frame and which is moved along a working stroke path which extends parallel to the length of the connector. The wire guide means can be selectively positioned relative to the connector to locate the wires in alignment with different groups of terminals in the connector.

Telephone cable splicing apparatus

Apparatus for inserting wires into the terminals in the modules of a modular type multi-contact electrical connector comprises a frame having a base section and a head portion which is spaced from the base section. A supporting means is provided in the base section for supporting a connector module and an inserter is provided in the head section for inserting wires into terminals in the connector. The inserter comprises a sector having an arcute surface which is disposed adjacent to the connector on the base section. The sector is pivotally mounted in the head section so that it can be rotated relative to its pivotal axis. The pivotal mounting means for the sector is movable in the head section along a rectilinear path which extends parallel to the connector in the base section. When the sector is rotated about its pivotal axis and simultaneously moved along the path, the arcuate surface moves over the surface of the connector and inserts the wires into the terminals.

Apparatus for inserting wires into terminals in modular type connector

Electrical junction means for cables which are part of a telephone wiring system comprises a base frame member disposed on the floor of a building. Multi-conductor cables extend across the floor and have connectors on their ends which are mounted in the base frame member. The connectors mounted in the base frame member or mated with connectors on the ends of conventional cables which extend from the junction means to telephones. Carpeting material on the floor extends up to the base frame member and flaps of carpeting are located on top of the base frame member. A cover member is secured by fasteners to the base frame member and serves to protect the connectors therein. The cover member is clamped against the carpet flaps and against portions of the carpeting which are immediately adjacent to the base frame member. This arrangement provides a self-gaging feature which reduces the tendency of the cover member to become loose.

Electrical connector junction for carpeted floor

A hand held circuit tester for use in detecting and identifying wiring errors in standard three-wire electrical outlets. Indicator lights, connected between each pair of the three plug-type terminals, are positioned side-by-side on one end of the device. Reference characters may then be aligned with the individual lights and the condition of the wiring can readily be determined. Because of the location of the indicator lights, they may be viewed through openings on three sides permitting use of the device in awkward locations. The components used in the manufacture of the device permit easy assembly of the components into circuits and facilitate insertion of the circuits into an insulated housing to form the completed device.
