Tuftable fabrics comprise a plurality of warp and weft tapes in a balanced construction of tapes with balanced dimensions of tapes in the warp and the weft and stabilization of the fabric to impart dimensional stability. The fabrics are useful as backings for tufted carpets and especially patterned carpets and carpet tile owing to a surprising combination of tuftability, resistance to edge curl and stability during tufting.

Tuftable fabric with balanced construction

Carpet backings and use thereof in tufted carpets with good tuft bind and fuzz resistance and free of inorganic and latex materials are disclosed. Backings suitable as tuftable primary backings or as secondary backings have a nonwoven fabric with thermoplastic filaments and a thermoplastic supporting fabric operatively attached as by needling, thermal calendaring or point bonding.

Carpet construction and carpet backings for same

Improved tuftable primary backings, carpets made from the backings and methods for making backings are disclosed. The backings employ fabrics made from serrated tape yarns which are coated with a film of a thermoplastic material, and optionally include a tufting lubricant applied to at least a portion of the serrated yarns.

Tuftable backing and carpet construction

A barrier fence comprising a leno fabric woven from thermoplastic yarns, and a series of stripes of a thermoplastic resin in a warp direction integrally adhered to the leno fabric, having gaps therebetween, wherein the stripes adhered to the leno fabric have a Tensile Strength in the warp direction at least equal to or greater than that of the gaps.

Fabric suitable for use as a cotton bale cover or bag fabric comprising a woven substrate with a series of stripes of a thermoplastic resin fused thereto. This fabric permits sampling of cotton in a bale but prevents fraying of the fabric in this operation. Further, the fabric permits moisture to pass through the material stored therein. Apparatus and method for making the fabric are also shown.

Extrusion coating compositions for woven and non-woven polyolefin substrates are disclosed which employ an ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer rubber, a high density polyethylene, an ethylene-propylene block copolymer and an ethylene-isobutylacrylate copolymer. Optionally, ultraviolet stabilizers, flame retardants and pigments can be added to each. Also disclosed are woven and non-woven polyolefin substrates which are coated with the above-cited extrusion coating compositions.
