Various vision devices are disclosed herein. An example vision device is an indicia reader that includes a housing, an imaging assembly having a field of view (FOV) extending into a product-scanning region and configured to capture image data depicting an environment appearing within the FOV, and an illumination assembly configured to emit a structured light into the product-scanning region such that at least a portion of the structured light overlaps with at least a portion of the FOV in the product-scanning region. The indicia reader is selectively operable pursuant to one of a first or a second set of operating parameters based on a distance value, where that value is determined by analyzing, in the image data, an appearance of the structured light on some portion of an object appearing within the FOV.

A tri-optic scanner may be provided by an indicia reader, including a housing, including a lower housing portion having a first surface defining a first horizontal plane, a horizontal window, an upper housing portion bounded by a first frontal plane and a second horizontal plane, a first distal window, a second distal window, a first imaging assembly having a first imaging sensor, configured to capture first image-data from a first field of view (FOV), a second imaging assembly having a second imaging sensor, configured to capture second image-data from a second field of view (FOV), a scanning region, and a visual data analysis module configured to analyze at least one of the first image-data and the second image-data to decode data corresponding to an indicium appearing in at least one of the first image-data and the second image-data.

Systems and methods for calibrating an adaptive illumination system of an imager are presented. An example method includes causing the system to enter a calibration mode and providing a calibration illumination level from an illumination source to an environment. An imager captures one or more images of the environment. A processor determines, from the one or more images, a first illumination intensity to provide during an object detect mode operation of the system. The first illumination intensity has an illumination sufficient for detecting a presence of an object in the environment during the object detect mode. The processor stores the first illumination intensity in a memory, and configures the illumination source to provide illumination at the first illumination intensity while the adaptive illumination system is in the object detect mode, and (ii) provide illumination at a second illumination intensity while the adaptive illumination system is in a scanning mode.

At least some embodiments of the present invention are directed to weigh platters for use with in-counter indicia readers. In an embodiment the present invention is a weigh platter for use with a indicia reader having a housing with a lower housing portion with an upper surface facing a product scanning region and an upper housing portion extending above the lower housing portion. The weigh platter includes (i) a central region extending in a transverse plane, the central region including a platter window configured to permit light to pass therethrough, the platter window having a transparent medium having a top surface extending parallel to the transverse plane and (ii) a proximal region positioned between the platter window and the upper housing portion, where the proximal region includes a proximal region surface that extends above the platter window and that is obliquely angled relative to the transverse plane.

Bi-optic indicia reader with improved weigh platter

Imaging devices, systems, and methods for determining whether an object is within range to be decoded based on a sharpness of the object in a captured image are described herein. An example device includes: an imaging assembly; and a computer-readable media storing machine readable instructions that, when executed, cause the imaging device to: (i) capture, using the imaging assembly, the image data of the indicia; (ii) calculate, using at least an element of the indicia, a sharpness score for the indicia; (iii) determine, based on the sharpness score, whether the indicia is within a predetermined decode operation range; (iv) when the distance of the indicia is within the predetermined decode operation range, perform a decode operation on the indicia; and (v) when the distance of the indicia is not within the predetermined decode operation range, refrain from performing the decode operation on the indicia.

Methods for overlapping exposure of frames in imaging systems with multiple fields of view. An example imaging system includes: one or more illumination sources configured to illuminate two or more FOVs, one or more imaging sensors corresponding to the two or more FOVs, one or more processors, and one or more memories including computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the imaging system to perform a data capture sequence including one or more data capture periods, wherein: each data capture period includes a first illuminated exposure period associated with a first FOV, at least one data capture period of the one or more data capture periods includes a first non-illuminated exposure period associated with the first FOV, and each data capture period includes a second illuminated exposure period associated with a second FOV.

Imaging devices are provided having a low-profile substrate structure with a mounting surface that can be removably placed on flat work surface. Further, a low-profile frame structure coincides with a peripheral region of that substrate structure and contains a plurality of imagers, at least some of which are on opposing sides of the substrate structure. The opposing imagers are positioned such that the respective fields of view are inwardly facing toward a central region of an upper surface and define a scan volume extending across the substrate structure and above the central region. The upper and lower bounds of the imaging device form a low-profile assembly generally accessible to scan objects moving across any direction.

A bioptic barcode reader is disclosed for selective use of illumination color to capture appropriate data. The bioptic barcode reader includes a housing and a primary imager positioned within the housing, configured to scan a target object during a first time period. The bioptic barcode reader further includes a primary illumination source positioned within the housing configured to emit primary illumination in a primary wavelength range during the first time period. The bioptic barcode reader further includes a secondary imager configured to capture one or more images of a target object during a second time period. The bioptic barcode reader further includes a secondary illumination source configured to emit secondary illumination in a secondary wavelength range during the second time period, wherein the second time period and first time period are interleaved and the secondary wavelength range is different from the primary wavelength range.

Systems and method for enabling selective use of illumination color to capture appropriate data

An example indicia reader includes a housing configured to be positioned above a product scanning area. The housing has a width, a height, and a width to height ratio equal to or greater than 2:1. A barcode camera is positioned at least partially within the housing and has a first field-of-view (FOV) configured to be directed towards the product scanning area. A vision camera is positioned at least partially within the housing and has a second FOV configured to at least partially overlap the first FOV. A controller is positioned within the housing and is communicatively coupled to the barcode camera and the vision camera. A decoder module is positioned within the housing and is communicatively coupled to the barcode camera and the controller. A video processing module is positioned within the housing and is communicatively coupled to the vision camera.

Indicia reader and indicia reader system

An example bioptic indicia reader assembly includes: a housing having an upper housing portion and a generally upright window positioned in the upper housing portion; and a platter having a proximal edge adjacent the upper housing portion. The upper housing portion comprises a first protrusion located on a first side of a longitudinal centerline of the bioptic indicia reader assembly and a second protrusion located on a second side of the longitudinal centerline. The first protrusion comprises a first camera having a first field-of-view (FOV) having an inner first lateral boundary that extends behind and at an angle to the proximal edge of the platter and the second protrusion comprises a second camera having a second FOV having an inner third lateral boundary that extends behind and at an angle to the proximal edge of the platter.

Bioptic indicia reader assembly

Methods and systems for avoidance of unintended indicia scanning are disclosed herein. An example system may include an imaging device comprising: (1) one or more image sensors; (2) a processing assembly communicatively coupled to the one or more image sensors and configured to: (i) instruct the one or more image sensors to capture the image data including a plurality of image frames over a FOV, (ii) decode an indicia in an initial image frame of the plurality of image frames to generate decoded indicia data of the indica, (iii) determine a first location associated with the indicia in the initial image frame, (iv) determine a second location associated with the indicia in a subsequent image frame, (v) determine whether a positional difference between the second location and the first location exceeds a threshold value, and (vi) transmit the decoded indicia data of the indicia to a host processor.

Methods and systems for avoidance of unintended indicia scanning

Imaging devices, systems, and methods for determining parameters of an object based on chemical indicators detected during a decode event are described herein. An example device includes: a housing; one or more processors; an imaging assembly at least partially disposed within the housing, the imaging assembly including: an imaging sensor operable to capture an image of an object in a FOV; and a computer-readable media storing machine readable instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to: after capturing the image of the object in the FOV, determine whether a decode indicia is present in the image of the object; initiate a decode event for the decode indicia present in the image of the object; detect a chemical indicator in proximity to the decode indicia in the image of the object; and determine, based on the chemical indicator, one or more parameters associated with the object.

A method of auxiliary data capture control includes: storing, at a data capture device, (i) detection criteria corresponding to events having respective event identifiers; and (ii) a registration indicator associated with at least one of the event identifiers; controlling a primary data capture sensor to obtain primary captured data; in response to detecting, based on the primary captured data, that the detection criteria are satisfied for a detected one of the event identifiers, determining whether the registration indicator is associated with the detected event identifier; and when the registration indicator is associated with the detected event identifier, controlling an auxiliary data capture sensor to obtain auxiliary captured data.

Barcode readers with off-platter detection assemblies are disclosed herein. An example barcode reader includes a weigh platter and an off-platter detection assembly including a light emission assembly, a light detection assembly, and a controller. The light emission assembly emits a light along a first lateral edge of the weigh platter and the light detection assembly detects at least a portion of the light from the light emission assembly. The controller is configured to: receive a light detection signal from the light detection assembly; compare the light detection signal to a first signal threshold and a second signal threshold range; execute a first event if the light detection signal is less than the first signal threshold, indicating an off-platter event; and execute a second event if the light detection signal is within the second signal threshold range for a predetermined period of time, indicating a maintenance event.

At least some embodiments described herein are directed to a machine vision method, which involves capturing both a two-dimensional (2D) image of an object to identify a barcode and determine 3D features, and a three-dimensional (3D) image of the environment. The 3D image data is examined for the presence of the 3D object features. If a feature is missing, a digital fault detection signal is provided. If a feature is present, at least one parameter of the machine vision system is adjusted. The method also includes decoding the barcode and determining the object's orientation based on the barcode location in the 2D image.
