A text preparation system involving a packaging of the elements of a word processor in a typewriter-like configuration. The system includes a detachable keyboard positioned as in a conventional typewriter with the printer set on an angle so that the user can observe the positioning of the paper as is necessary when filling in preprinted forms. An electronic memory and video display unit are provided which allow text storage and editing prior to printing. The video display is supported by an articulated arm and the position and attitude of the video display can be locked using a single clamp.

Display typewriter

A flow control valve assembly is provided for timing and regulating fluid flow from a valve inlet to primary and secondary fluid flow outlets. The valve assembly comprises a regulator valve which, upon initiation of fluid flow to the valve assembly, is spring-biased to open the primary and secondary outlets and to modulate the primary outlet flow in a manner maintaining the secondary outlet flow at a predetermined minimum fluid pressure. Upon elapse of a predetermined time interval, a timer assembly responsive to the secondary outlet flow triggers an alteration in the spring bias acting on the regulator valve to permit fluid pressure at the valve inlet to shift the regulator valve to a position closing the secondary outlet and fully opening the primary outlet for the remaining time of a fluid flow cycle. When fluid flow through the valve assembly is halted, a return spring resets the regulator valve to its initial state. In a preferred operating environment, the valve inlet is coupled to the discharge side of a swimming pool circulation pump which draws pool water through a filter unit. The primary outlet of the valve assembly is coupled to a return conduit for recycling filtered water to the swimming pool, and the secondary outlet is coupled to a water-powered in-the-pool cleaning device. During a normal filtration cycle, the valve assembly initially supplies water to the cleaning device at a predetermined minimum pressure for a selected time interval and then automatically switches state to halt operation of the cleaning device and to recirculate filtered water to the pool through the return conduit.

Timed flow control valve assembly

A hold circuit for use with Dual Tone Multi Frequency telephone systems including a bistable circuit connected across the telephone line, the ON state drawing sufficient current from the telephone line to hold the circuit and the OFF state being substantially infinite impedance, a tone detection circuit which triggers the bistable circuit ON when the two frequencies produced by the '*' button are sensed, and a means for triggering the bistable circuit OFF responsive to the drop in line voltage due to a telephone on the line being taken off-hook.

Tone activated hold circuit

A data acquisition and transport system including a plurality of array terminals, each array terminal having a plurality of geophones delivering analog signals thereto, the analog signals being digitized to 1-bit and temporarily stored, and on demand, transmitted downline to a recording station, as a train of 1-bit pulses. The array terminals have two identical ports into which cable segments of two conductor digital transmission channels can be plugged. Means are provided in the recording station to place a DC potential between the two terminals of the digital transmission channel. In the array terminals means are provided for identifying which of the two identical ports is the one which receives the DC potential, which is identified as the downline port. On receiving a DC potential at the downline port, a corresponding DC potential is transmitted through the upline port to the next array terminal and so on. Means are provided for amplifying, digitizing to 1 bit, storing, and transmitting to the recording station the plurality of analog signals received from the geophones connected to an array terminal. Means are also provided for receiving trains of digital pulses from each of the upline array terminals at the upline port, storing them in shift registers, and then transmitting from the shift registers through the downline port, to the next downline array terminal.

Method and apparatus for data acquisition and transport

An ambience processor receives and combines the left and right channel signals from a stereophonic amplifier. The resulting composite signal is converted to a sequence of digital signals which are stored in a random access memory. The stored digital representation of the composite signal is read out of the random access memory at different times to separate output circuits which drive left channel and right channel ambience loudspeakers. Reverberation effects are obtained by feeding back portions of the separate output signals to the input of the system.

Ambience processor

A processor for audio program material which synthesizes simulated reflection and reverberation signals for use in creating the illusion of a specific modeled listening environment. A preferred embodiment of the processor accepts stereophonic audio signals and simulates the multiple reflections of an acoustically modeled environment by recirculating the signals through a pair of digital signal delays which have different delay times. The analog input signals are sampled and converted to digital form by first attenuating the signals with a digitally controlled step attenuator and then encoding the amplitude of the attenuated signal using a ramp comparison technique. The encoded amplitude signals, and a code representative of the attenuator position, are stored in a random access memory and are retrieved after the desired delay. The retrieved digital data are converted back to analog signals by reversing the encoding process, using the same ramp voltage generator. A stack comprised of a counter and two registers connected in a loop generates three addresses during each sample period for use in writing in new data and retrieving previously stored data.

Digital delay/ambience processor

A simplified cable system for use in gathering S analog signals into each of T array terminals (AT), spaced apart a distance D, where the analog signals are amplified, digitized, stored and, on command, transmitted as trains of digital bits along a digital conductor pair in the cable system, to successive ATs downline, to a recording unit. In the optimum embodiment, the cables are all identical, are plugged into each of 2 ports, or receptacles, in each AT. The cables are D/2 long, have S/2 conductor pairs, and S/2 takeouts spaced D/S apart, each takeout connected to a different conductor pair. Each cable contains at least one digital conductor pair. Two cables in series connect between adjacent ATs. The plugs joining one cable to the next, connect only the digital conductor through from cable to cable, while the analog conductor pairs are dead ended at the joining plugs.

Seismic cable for use with array terminal type acquisition systems

A print element for use in high speed printing machines, having a plurality of metallic print characters which are substantially flat and are flexible. The characters are struck by a hammer surface which is curved so as to conform to the curvature of the platen upon which the characters strike. The characters are struck by the curved hammer surface and thereby temporarily deformed to conform to the curvature of the platen, thus producing a character of uniform density on the printing surface.
