A lean detector comprises a first light source for determining the time of arrival of a container at an inspection site, a second light source for determining the time of arrival of a portion of the container at a predetermined position at the inspection site and a third light source for determining the time of arrival of another portion of the container at another predetermined position at the inspection site. The second and third light sources are perpendicular to each other. A guide rail laterally positions the container at the inspection site. Before real containers are inspected, a non-leaning test container is passed through the inspection site and the times of arrival of the corresponding second and third portions of the test container relative to the time of arrival of the container at the inspection site are determined to serve as reference values. Then, after a real container passes through the inspection site and the times of arrival measured, the reference values are subtracted from the times of arrival of the second and third portions of the real container at the inspection site so that it is not necessary to precisely position the light source relative to each other or relative to the guide rail in order to accurately determine the amount of lean of the real container.

In a multiple gob multiple section glassware forming machine adapted to receive a plurality of gobs simultaneously at each successively activated section of the machine, a corresponding plurality of interceptors are associated adjacent the paths of the gobs and may be selectively activated to reject selected ones of the gobs in each cycle of the machine.

A swab reject apparatus identifies and rejects articles that are made in a particular section and mold of a multi-gob, individual section (IS) glassware machine during a particular cycle of operation. The apparatus includes a manually actuated mold switch for each mold of the machine and a pulse generator that generates pulses corresponding to all of the articles made by the machine. Controls responding to the pulse generator and the manually actuated mold switches identify those articles while the articles are moving in series along an output conveyor. Once identified, the article or articles produced during the machine cycles immediately following swabbing are removed from the series on the conveyor.

Ware identifying apparatus for glassware machines and the like

A refrigeration system contains a common compressor supplying refrigerant to a plurality of evaporators that are refrigerated and defrosted independently of one another. Individual refrigeration/defrost controls are provided in solid state form for the respective evaporators, and the individual controls are connected with a master control that prevents all of the evaporators from being defrosted at one time. The master control includes a digital time clock providing time signals to each of the individual refrigeration/defrost controls, and each of the individual controls can initiate a defrost operation for its respective evaporator on either a timed or demand basis. The master control includes a scanner that interrogates the individual controls in a special manner to initiate defrosting of the units in order of priority. The master control permits an individual defrost control for a selected evaporator to be tested in a timed mode by substantially increasing the speed of the time clock while operation of the remaining defrost controls is inhibited.

Refrigeration system control method and apparatus

An ionization smoke detector particularly suited to residential use is battery-operated and is connected with a non-latching, pulsating alarm circuit. The detector has a sensing chamber formed by a perforated metallic shell and an electrode within which an insulated radiation source is centrally positioned to generate an ionization current for detecting smoke or other similar aerosols. The alarm circuit provides a pulsating alarm signal when smoke levels above a predetermined value are sensed. The alarm circuit also includes a low voltage detection circuit for sounding the alarm when the end of useful battery life is approaching.
