A control module is included in a battery charger that is adapted to charge a plurality of battery packs of different types or a power tool that is adapted to be powered by at least one of the battery packs. The control module includes a remote sensing module that communicates remotely with one of the battery packs. The control module also includes a battery pack connection module that determines that the one of the battery packs is in electrical communication with at least one of the battery charger and the power tool. The control module also includes a battery pack identification (ID) module that determines a first type of the battery pack based on remote sensing module signals. The control module also includes a charge control module that determines at least one of a charge setting and a discharge setting for the battery pack based on the first type.

A system of cordless power tools includes a cordless power tool adapted to removably receive a rechargeable battery pack. The battery pack and the power tool can have complementary grooves and rails or L-shaped surfaces that aid in aligning the positive and negative blade terminals of the battery pack to the positive and negative tool terminals, respectively, of the power tool.

A battery charger work light includes a housing defining an envelope and a charger circuit disposed in the housing. The charger circuit is operable to charge a rechargeable battery pack. A light is movably mounted to the housing. The light is movable between an extended position outside of the envelope and a storage position inside of the envelope.

A system of cordless power tools includes a cordless power tool adapted to removably receive a rechargeable battery pack. In each embodiment, the battery pack and the power tool have complementary rails and grooves that aid in aligning the positive and negative blade terminals of the battery pack to the positive and negative tool terminals, respectively, of the power tool. In one embodiment, a keying feature cooperates with a mating keying feature to further align the terminals of the battery pack to the terminals of the power tool. In a second embodiment, the battery pack includes two sets of blade terminals, with each set including a positive blade terminal and a negative blade terminal.

A charger for charging a battery power source removably disposed on and connectable to the charger, the charger including a controller electrically connectable to a battery power source, at least one terminal connected to at least one of the controller and the battery power source, a power supply connectable to an outside power source, the power supply providing power to at least one of the controller and the battery power source, and a switch connected between the outside power supply and the power supply, the switch being activated when a battery pack is connected to the at least one terminal.

A system of cordless power tools includes a cordless power tool adapted to removably receive a rechargeable battery pack. The system further includes a battery pack charger and a converter for converting AC electricity to DC electricity. A battery pack interface block is captured between clam shell halves of a battery pack housing and includes a plurality of male blade terminals. The male blade terminals are received within recessed female terminals of a tool terminal block and similarly received by recessed female terminals of the charger. The tool terminal block further includes a pair of male terminals which engage recessed female terminals of the converter.

A power pack charging system includes a one-way compatible charger arrangement for use with multiple power pack types. In another aspect of the present invention, both of the power pack types can be used in a first charger but only one of the power pack types can be charged in a second charger.

Printed circuit board 19 is mounted in base portion 17. Electrical component 21 has projecting core end segments 61, 63 which are particularly suitable for clamping between legs 67, 69 of support 53 and cradles 83, 89 of support 55.
