A test generator includes a computer programmed to receive at least one input instruction including a message to be transmitted by the test generator and an error command indicating errors to be introduced into the transmission. The computer is further programmed to generate a data frame formatted according to a single-edge-nibble-transmission protocol. The data frame includes the message and the errors. The computer is further programmed to transmit the data frame.

Sent error generator

An engine diagnostic system is described in which a number of engine diagnostics for an electronic throttle are performed while the throttle itself is off line. Of particular interest are positional, electrical, and timing tests of performance for the electronic throttle. A number of self-diagnostic routines may be performed when the engine is off-line and the testing will not interfere with an operator of the engine or a motor vehicle containing the engine.

Off-line diagnostics for an electronic throttle

An electronic throttle control system with a plastic composite housing member and injection molded motor assembly. The motor assembly is preassembled with a gear shaft member to a metal mounting plate which in turn is injection molded into the composite housing member. An electronic throttle control system with a housing having a motor, throttle valve and gear mechanism. The throttle valve is attached to a throttle body shaft which is mounted in bearings in the housing. An axial spring clip mechanism mounted on the throttle body shaft preloads the bearings and eliminates undesired axial and radial movement of the shaft which could adversely affect the movement of the throttle valve and the sensing of its position.

A speed monitoring and control method for a brushless motor controlled by a controller which provides switching control signals to a plurality of switching elements includes comparing one line voltage of the motor with a signal representing a voltage at the neutral node of the motor, to generate a comparison signal. The method also includes ANDing the comparison signal with a switching control signal to generate a composite feedback signal representative of a rotational speed of the motor's rotor relative to a speed of a rotating magnetic field generated by the stator.

A fuel delivery system for delivering fuel from a fuel tank to an internal combustion engine includes a fuel pump disposed within the tank and an accumulator communicating between the fuel pump and the engine for storing a volume of fuel under pressure. The system also includes a fuel pump control means for controlling the output of fuel flow from the fuel pump. The control means selectively causes the fuel pump output flow to either supply fuel to both the engine and the accumulator or bypass fuel at a lower pressure while fuel is supplied by the accumulator alone, thereby reducing the average power demand of the pump.

Fuel delivery system

A throttle body for use in the air intake system of an internal combustion engine having an idle speed control. The throttle body assembly (10) includes a throttle plate (18) mounted to a throttle shaft (16), which is, in turn, mounted to a throttle control lever (20). A bearing member (30) is coupled to the throttle control lever (20). A motor (32) is mounted relative to the throttle body and includes an idle control cam (36) mounted to the motor shaft (34) so that the bearing (30) rests on the cam (36). A circuit (40) actuates the motor (32). This arrangement provides a variable idle stop for the throttle plate (18) where the cam (36) is directly controlled by the motor (32). The motor size is minimized by providing an overdrive function that overdrives the motor (32) during transitional phases, to obtain fast response time and high resolution of idle control. Further, this idle stop does not interfere with the smooth operation of the accelerator cable (24) during engine operating conditions other than idle.
