Anti-uPA antibodies and antigen-binding regions thereof, as well as pharmaceutical compositions comprising such antibodies and antigen-binding regions, are described. Also described are methods of using such antibodies and antigen-binding regions to bind uPA epitopes and activate uPA function, such as inhibition of uPA mediated inflammation. Epitopes that can be used to activate uPA function and anti-inflammation activity are also described, as well as methods of identifying compounds that can bind them.

Antibodies that bind urokinase-type plasminogen activator and epitopes therefor

Disclosed are methods for treating conditions resulting from hyperoxia or mechanical ventilation comprising the administration of a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a substantially pure resolved R enantiomer .omega.-1, secondary alcohol-substituted (C.sub.5-8) alkyl; and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are independently hydrogen atom or a (C.sub.1-12) alkyl optionally containing one or two oxygen atoms in place of non-adjacent carbon atoms.

Method for treating hyperoxia

Previously unisolated serum immunoregulatory polypeptides (SIPs) having a molecular weight of approximately 14,000 to 31,000 are provided. The SIPs may be obtained from hemorrhagic serum of mammals and have been shown to activate suppressor T-cells and suppress lymphocyte proliferation and interleukin production. There is a significant homology between SIPs of different mammalian species. The amino acid sequence of an SIP having a molecular weight of about 16,000 is provided. In addition, immunosuppressive polypeptides are identified which have the formula (SEQ ID NO:2):
