A signalling system for downed aircrew recovery. The system uses an infra laser beam aimed at a search aircraft which has a detector and a position indicator to locate the transmitter so that the downed crew may be rescued.

Covert recovery or signalling system

A common-optics laser transceiver has a common aperture for transmitting receiving a laser beam, and uses the resonator polarizer to separate the resonator beam from the receiver beam, resulting in a polarization sensitive, lightweight laser transmitter/receiver.

Common aperture laser transmitter/receiver

A gimballed active optical system for pointing and tracking having a laser eam output which coincides with the gimbal system instantaneous field-of-view over wide angles to produce an active laser seeker.

Gimballed active optical system

A tunable, electroabsorptive, semiconductor detector or detector-modulator for detecting or modulating radiation near the absorptive edge of the detector, which edge can be tunably shifted by back biasing.
