A nozzle assembly for a fuel injector includes an injector housing having a casing and a stack within the casing, an outlet check movable within a nozzle cavity in the injector housing, and having a stop positioned within a stop cavity. A clearance is formed between the outlet check and the injector housing and fluidly connects a spring cavity to a stop cavity, and an anti-cavitation vent is formed in the stack and fluidly connects the spring cavity to a low pressure space. The anti-cavitation vent limits pressure changes in the spring cavity during fuel injection such that production of cavitation bubbles in the spring cavity is limited.

Emission reduction retrofit method and kit for EMD two-cycle diesel engines

A device is disclosed for sensing the speed of an EMD 567/645/710 two-cycle diesel engine having a crankcase, electronic fuel injectors and an electronic control system for controlling the electronic fuel injectors. The device includes a spline shaft sized for insertion into the crankcase of the engine so that the spline shaft rotates with the engine, a gear operably secured to the spline shaft to rotate with the spline shaft and sized to rotate with the engine in a 1:1 ratio, and at least one electronic sensor located adjacent the gear to sense rotation of the gear. The at least one electronic sensor is connectable to the electronic control system to provide electronic signals to the electronic control system for determining when to inject fuel with the electronic fuel injectors. Also disclosed is a method for retrofitting the engine and a kit for retrofitting the engine.

Speed and position sensing device for EMD two-cycle diesel engines

A high pressure unit fuel injector includes a member with a fuel delivery opening to be intermittently supplied with high pressure fuel and a valve seat encircling the fuel delivery opening. A valve cage includes a check-valve chamber adjacent the valve seat. The chamber includes an annular ledge facing the valve seat and an inwardly facing wall surrounding the ledge. A disk is located within the chamber and has opposite first and second faces alternately seatable against the valve seat and the ledge respectively. The disk has a plurality of openings between the first and second faces and a circular-shaped groove formed in the first face about a center of the disk. The groove intersects the plurality of openings.
