A tubular fitting is threaded at one end for connection to a valve, meter, or the like and at the opposite end to a compression nut. A bore extends through the fitting and includes a tapered or restricted portion. The tapered portion forms an internal shoulder. A compressible sleeve is positioned in the fitting bore opposite the internal shoulder. A reinforcing insert extends through the sleeve. The insert abuts the end of the sleeve. An annular space is provided between the sleeve and the insert for receiving an unthreaded conduit. The insert includes a plurality of annular serrations adapted to frictionally engage the end of the conduit positioned in the annular space. The application of a force on the conduit in a direction to pull the conduit out of the fitting advances the sleeve against the fitting internal shoulder. The sleeve is compressed onto the flexible conduit to increase the frictional engagement of the conduit with the insert serrations. As the pullout force on the conduit increases, the insert pushes axially against the sleeve to increase the compression of the sleeve against the fitting internal shoulder. Thus the frictional engagement of the conduit to the insert is increased to prevent pullout of the conduit from the fitting.

Compression coupling

A first clamp member and a second clamp member are positioned in opposed spaced relation with a conduit, pipe or the like, positioned therebetween. Each clamp member has a body portion including an engaging end portion adapted for attachment to a structural support and an opposite connecting end portion. An intermediate portion having an arcuate configuration extends between the engaging and connecting end portions and is adapted to receive and support the conduit. A moisture resistant, polymeric material covers the clamp member body portions so that the clamp members are completely encapsulated to seal out the effects of moisture. A bore extends through the connecting end portion of each clamp member. In assembly, the bores are oppositely aligned to receive a fastening element which draws the connecting end portions together for engagement of the intermediate portions with the periphery of the conduit. The polymeric coating extends outwardly from the opposed sides of each clamp member around the bores to form a moisture resistant seal for encapsulating the fastening element. The seal includes telescoping elements movable one within the other to permit selective spacing of the clamp members to accommodate a range of conduit sizes. Thus, the clamp members are usable with more than a single size of conduit and the fastening element remains completely encapsulated within the moisture resistant seal for each size of conduit received between the clamp members.

Pipe hanger

A threaded U-bolt receives a conduit to be clamped to an I-beam. A moisture resistant, polymeric material covers the conduit support portion of the U-bolt with the bolt threads remaining exposed. A clamping member covered with a moisture, resistant polymeric coating includes a first end portion adapted to engage a flange of the I-beam and a second end portion adapted to engage the conduit. A pair of apertures extend through the clamping member. A pair of resilient polymeric annular flanges extend upwardly from the upper surface of the clamping member and around the apertures. The U-bolt threaded ends extend upwardly through the apertures. A pair of polymeric nuts engage the threaded ends above the annular flanges of the clamping member. A resilient sealing flange extends radially from the open end of each encapsulated nut. The nuts are threadedly advanced on the U-bolt threaded ends to position the sealing flanges in contact with the clamping member annular flanges to form a radial, moisture resistant seal around the connections of the nuts to the threaded ends to prevent corrosion of the threaded connections.

Beam clamp

A cable connector includes an insert having a tubular body portion with a conical end portion longitudinally spaced from an annular flanged end portion by diametrically opposed radial grooves. The insert is positioned in an aperture extending through a wall of an electrical junction box. The tubular body portion is contractable to permit the wall surrounding the aperture to be positioned in surrounding relation with the grooves to retain the tubular body portion in the aperture. A passageway extends through the tubular body portion and includes a rectangular inlet and a rectangular outlet. Vertical sidewalls of the passageway diverge outwardly from the inlet to the outlet so that the cross sectional area of the outlet is greater than the cross sectional area of the inlet. A pair of wedge shaped members are positioned in the passageway to secure a cable, such as an insulated conductor, extending through the passageway from being pulled out of the junction box. As the cable is moved in an axial direction through the insert from the inlet to the outlet of the passageway, the cable passes between the wedge-shaped members and urges the wedge-shaped members outwardly into abutting relation with the inclined sidewalls of the insert. Movement of the cable out of the insert is prevented by the wedging engagement of the wedge-shaped members between the cable and the insert inclined sidewalls.

Cable connector

A molding apparatus for applying a protective coating to an irregularly sized article includes a mold shell having upper and lower portions with mold cavities of a preselected configuration in each portion to receive the article, such as a threaded fitting or coupling, for coating. The shell upper and lower portions are secured together to position the cavities in overlying relation and surrounding the article. Openings extend through the shell portions into the overlying cavities to expose the end portions of the article. Seal members are advanced into the openings and are secured as by threaded engagement to the end portions of the article. The seal members seal the openings and position the article within the cavities to form an annulus surrounding the article as defined by the surface of the cavities. A fluid inlet extends through the shell and into the annulus. A moisture resistant, resilient, polymeric liquid, such as polyvinylchloride, is introduced through the inlet and fills the annulus surrounding the article. After curing the liquid is bonded to the outer surface of the article to form an insulating, moisture resistant, resilient polymeric coating. The coating terminates on the threaded end portion of the article in annular resilient flange portions as defined by the configuration of the seal members. The annular flange portions extend radially of the threaded end portions regardless of the length thereof so that connecting members threadedly engaged to the end portions of the article contact the annular flanges to effect an insulating and moisture resistant seal therebetween.
