Topical anti-fungicide preparation

A low molecular weight polyester resin is made by condensation reaction of particular polyols and carboxylic acids in a reaction mixture having excess hydroxyls and a system functionality between about 1.6 and 1.8. In one embodiment, an aliphatic diol, a cyclic dicarboxylic acid and a monobasic fatty acid are condensation reacted together to produce the polyester resin, whereas in a second, and preferred, embodiment, the monobasic fatty acid is present as a hydroxyl-bearing, polyol-esterified oil or fatty acid. The polyester resin of either embodiment can be cross-linked with an aminoplast resin, in the presence or absence of pigment, in a coating composition comprising 90% by weight and higher amounts of solids to produce cured coatings exhibiting good hardness, flexibility, chemical resistance and gloss. Pigment can be present in the cured coatings in amounts up to at least 60% by weight of the solids.

High solids polyester resin-based coating composition and method of

Water-thinnable, di- or polyesters and water-insoluble coatings which are particularly suitable as wood finishes and which are made by reaction of the di- or polyesters with water-soluble aminoplast resins are described. The ester resin intermediates are made by reacting a triol having a carbon/oxygen ratio of about 5:3 to about 7:3 with a polycarboxylic acid selected from lower molecular weight polycarboxylic acids so that the resulting ester resin is water-thinnable. The ratio of triol to polycarboxylic acid is varied to produce either the diester or the polyester.

Water-based coatings

A polyester resin is made by esterifying a reaction mixture comprising specific amounts of a diol, a triol, an a cyclic dicarboxylic acid, an unsaturated, aliphatic dicarboxylic acid such as maleic acid and a saturated, aliphatic dicarboxylic acid. The polyester resin is cross-linked with an aminoplast resin to produce a one-coat chemical coating which dispenses with the need to use a primer coat. Another embodiment of this invention includes the use of a highly aromatic, polyhydroxy, low molecular weight polymer in the polyester resin formulation.

One-coat polyester-based coating and method of making same

A water-reduced coating composition is made by admixing water with a concentrate comprising: (1) a water-reducible, low molecular weight ester compound; (2) a modified epoxy amine salt; (3) a highly functional cross-linking agent; and (4) a coupling solvent for coupling the epoxy amine salt to water. Preferably, a low boiling component is included in the coating composition to facilitate removal of the water therefrom during cure.

Water-based can coating composition and method of making same

Water-soluble ester intermediates characterized by having 2 and 3 ester groups per molecule are made by condensing (a) a polyol having 2 to 3 hydroxyl groups per mol and a carbon/oxygen ratio between 5:3 and 7:3 with (b) a polycarboxylic acid having a carboxyl functionality of 2 to 3, using an equivalents ratio of polyol to polycarboxylic acid so that the ester intermediate has a hydroxyl functionality of about 3 and using a ratio of 1 mol of polyol per carboxyl group. The ester intermediates are combined in aqueous media with specific amounts of water-soluble aminoplast resin and the resulting combination is cured at elevated temperatures to produce cross-linked, water-insoluble coatings which are suitable as can and coil coatings. Small amounts of epoxy resin which is soluble in the ester intermediate may be used to provide coatings having improved adhesion, particularly under certain adverse conditions.
