A viewing device adaptor, hatch insert, and overall mounting system allows viewing device to be releasably mounted through an existing vehicle opening of a vehicle. The viewing device includes a mounted periscope assembly extending from a body of a viewing device, with a collar bearing surface contiguous inbetween. A viewer adaptor releasably and rotatively mounts about the collar bearing surface. A hatch insert releasably mountable within a vehicle hatch opening including an opening for the releasable mounting of the viewer adaptor therewithin. When the viewing device adaptor is coupled about the collar bearing surface, and releasably mounted within the hatch insert that has been releasably mounted within the hatch opening, there results a substantially unobstructed field of view, with the viewing device within the vehicle rotatable from inside the vehicle.

A multi-cable storage and retrieval device including a housing, multi-cable pool inside the housing, and lockable handle coupled to the spool which projects out one side of the housing. The multi-cable spool includes a spindle with at least two disks centered on the spindle for separating the various cables.

An infrared thermal monitoring system for use by a range or safety officer to monitor and record a tank gunnery training battle scene during poor visibility conditions, such as inclement weather and totally dark night time conditions. The system is comprised of readily available components which are used with the head assembly of a U.S. Army tank thermal sight (TTS) which converts an infrared image of battle scene into a visible image for display. The components are a charge coupled device (CCD) camera mounted on the head assembly for direct viewing of the visible image, a control console which controls the function of the head assembly and provides additional information to the output of the camera.
