An unrefined surface modified low hysteresis carbon black (SMLHCB) product is described herein. The unrefined surface modified low hysteresis carbon black product contains a low hysteresis carbon black having a surface that has been modified with from about 0.1 to about 50 wt % of a surface modifier attached thereto, wherein the surface modifier comprises an amino acid and at least one amine group.

Surface modified carbon black to simultaneously improve rolling resistance, wet traction, and wear resistance

A non-ASTM low hysteresis carbon black chemically treated, and surface coated with a compound comprising at least one amine group and at least one thiol group, and/or di- and/or polysulfidic linkage is herein disclosed. The surface modified low hysteresis carbon blacks are post treated to remove excess surface modified compound to form refined surface modified low hysteresis carbon blacks.

Refined surface modified carbon black and methods of making same

A method of producing a surface modified low hysteresis carbon black (SMLHCB). The method includes treating a surface of a low hysteresis carbon black with from about 0.1 to about 50 wt % of a surface modifier to form the SMLHCB. The surface modifier includes an amino acid and at least one amine group.

Non-ASTM low hysteresis carbon blacks chemically treated, and surface coated with a compound comprising at least one amine group and at least one thiol group, and/or di- and/or polysulfidic linkage. When compared with a standard ASTM grade compound, the disclosed surface modified low hysteresis carbon black compound shows improved rolling resistance, wet traction, and DIN abrasion, comparable to silica compounds.

A method for separating single-wall carbon nanotubes from an aqueous slurry comprises adding a water-immiscible organic solvent to an aqueous slurry comprising single-wall carbon nanotubes, isolating at least some of the single-wall carbon nanotubes in the solvent, and removing the solvent from the single-wall carbon nanotubes to form dried single-wall carbon nanotubes. A spheroidal aggregate of single-wall carbon nanotubes is formed wherein the aggregate is approximately spherical and has a diameter in a range of about 0.1 and about 5 mm, and wherein the aggregate contains at least about 80 wt % single-wall carbon nanotubes. The spheroidal aggregates of single-wall carbon nanotubes are easily handled in industrial processes and are redispersable to single-wall carbon nanotubes and/or ropes of single-wall carbon nanotubes. This invention can also be applied to multi-wall carbon nanotubes.

Spheroidal aggregates comprising single-wall carbon nanotubes and method for making the same

Compositions and methods are described herein for use in packaging having improved moisture vapor barrier properties. In certain embodiments of the present invention, packaging articles can be made having improved oxygen barrier properties as well. Compositions of the present invention can comprise a low molecular weight hydrogenated aliphatic resin and either a high density polyethylene or a branched or linear low density polyethylene. The low molecular weight hydrogenated aliphatic resin has a weight-average molecular weight of less than about 2000 g/mol. Preferably, the low molecular weight hydrogenated aliphatic resin comprises hydrogenated poly (dicyclopentadiene) or the product of hydrogenating a polymer produced by polymerizing a reaction mixture comprising dicyclopentadiene.
