Described herein are atherectomy catheters, systems and methods that include longitudinally displaceable drive shafts that drive actuation of one or more cutters at the distal end of the catheter. The catheters described herein may include one or more imaging sensors for imaging before, during or after cutting tissue. In some variations the imaging sensor may be rotated around the perimeter of the catheter independently of the rotation of the cutter. Also describe herein are imaging catheters that may be used without cutters.

A stylet for re-entry into a vessel includes an elongate body including a proximal portion, a middle curved portion, a pointed distal end, and a longitudinal axis extending through the proximal portion, the middle curved portion, and the pointed distal end. The proximal portion and the middle curved portion have substantially circular cross-sections. The middle curved portion has a pre-shaped curve along the longitudinal axis configured to match a curve of an occlusion-crossing device. The pointed distal end has an s-curve along the longitudinal axis and a flattened portion along the longitudinal axis, the flattened portion having a substantially oblong cross-section.

Methods and apparatus for creating fluid flow from one location to another are disclosed. The fluid flow is created via the absorption of repetitive pulses of radiation in a fluid to generate bubbles that expand and collapse repetitively. This fluid mechanism, or pumping phenomenon, can be used to aid removal of a total or partial occlusion in a body passage by disrupting a surface of the occlusion with acoustic shock and pressure waves and/or by causing mechanical disruption of the occlusive material. Appropriate selection of materials and particular constructions improve apparatus flexibility.

Flexible flow apparatus and method for the disruption of occlusions

Apparatus for pumping fluid from one location to another via generation of bubbles in fluid, and expansion and callapse thereof, are described. These apparatus deliver repetitive pulses of radiation to a fluid to form bubbles therein. The expansion and collapse of the bubbles cause fluid motion or pumping. This pumping can be used to facilitate removal of a total or partial occlusion in a body passage by a variety of mechanisms. The apparatus are flexible to facilitate use within a body passage.

The invention encompasses methods and apparatus for pumping fluid from one location to another through the repetitive expansion and collapse of bubbles generated as a result of the absorption of repetitive pulses of radiation in a fluid. This pumping phenomenon can be used to aid removal of a total or partial occlusion in a body passage by emulsifying the occlusion with acoustic shock and pressure waves or by mechanically disrupting the occlusive material.
