The present invention provides means and methods for treating Interleukin 18 (IL-18)-associated diseases and disorders. In particular, the present invention discloses antibodies specific for free IL-18 and IL-18 Binding Protein (IL-18BP) for use in such treatments and for the diagnosis of the diseases and disorders.

The present invention provides means and methods for treating Interleukin 18 (IL-18)-associated diseases and disorders, in particular, the present invention discloses antibodies specific for free IL-18 and IL-18 Binding Protein (IL-18BP) for use in such treatments and for the diagnosis of the diseases and disorders.

The present invention relates to methods and immunonutritional compositions for preventing or mitigating paralysis of the bone marrow, caused by a tumor or neoplasm, between cycles of and after anti-cancer therapy, thereby attaining a better efficacy of the treatment. More particularly, the present invention relates to methods and immunonutritional compositions that can transiently preventing or moderating, bone marrow paralysis or neutropenia of a subject tumor-induced apoptosis or necrosis or other cell damage such that the innate and adaptive immune functions and normal physiology of the bone marrow are preserved, at least in part, which, in turn, lead to (i) a better tolerance and increased efficacy to treatment; (ii) transient augmentation or enhancement of immunocompetence of the immune cell; and (iii) optimization of the effects of and increase of immunocompetence of the immune cell weakened due to paralysis of the bone marrow, caused by a tumor or neoplasm.

Nutritional composition for promoting musculoskeletal health in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

The present invention relates generally to the field of nutrition, more particularly to the use of probiotics in nutrition. In particular the present invention relates to the use of a probiotic or of a mixture of probiotics in the manufacture of a nutritional composition or a medicament to act the colon in a pre- or post surgical environment.

A nutritional composition is proposed comprising a probiotic and milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) wherein the MFGM and the probiotics mutually potentiate their respective effects and promote complementary beneficial protective mechanisms that reflect physiological synergy. The nutritional composition can be an infant formula, infant cereals, baby food or health care nutritional product. The synergistic effect can include promoting immune maturation and/or immune education and/or reducing inflammation and/or treating or preventing disease or infections.

The present invention provides novel strains of probiotics for use in the gastrointestinal tract of a pet. The probiotics of the present invention are capable of fermenting starch to produce lactic acid and/or hydrogen peroxide anti-pathogenic metabolites. The present invention also provides a novel method for identifying the effectiveness of a pet probiotic in vitro. The method simulates the introduction of a probiotic candidate in the gastrointestinal tract of a pet and measures the anti-pathogenic effectiveness of the probiotic.

The invention relates to an infant formula comprising a source of protein in an amount of not more than 2.0 g/100 kcal, a source of lipids, a source of carbohydrate and a probiotic wherein the probiotic is present in an amount equivalent to between 10and 10cfu/g of dry formula. The invention further extends to the use of such an infant formula to modulate the immune system of a neonatal infant to promote the development in the first few weeks of the life of the infant of a beneficial intestinal microbiota comparable with that found in breast fed babies as well as to promote the maturation of the immune system of a neonatal infant in the first few weeks of life.
