Systems and methods for lens creations are disclosed. The method includes initiating light transmission from a light source through a diffuser into a container holding resin and a substrate. The light transmission is performed according to an irradiation pattern wherein each point in the resin is illuminated by at least 10% of the diffuser. This causes a lens to be formed. To achieve this illumination, at least 15% of the diffuser receives light from the light source. Further, a diameter of the diffuser is greater than or equal to a diameter of the substrate. The system performing the methods includes a polymerization apparatus and may include a resin conditioning and reservoir apparatus, a metrology unit, a resin drainage apparatus and an optional postcuring apparatus.

Eyewear lens creation using additive techniques with diffuse light

Configuring ophthalmic lenses that reduce oblique aberrations based on a wearer's accommodative demand values is disclosed. The accommodative demand values include A_(rel&#x2212;) and A_(rel+) depend on object vergence L. The accommodative demand values are considered to and ensure no or reduced eye strain to the wearer. An improved merit function &#x3a6;' is calculated based on the accommodative demand values. In the calculation, accommodative term A is a smooth and continuous function of both the object distance L and the spherical component of the power error. This ensures the accommodative demand values are well below maximum relative accommodations available to the wearer to prevent eye fatigue. The calculation may also include a smooth and continuous thresholding function &#x192; that optimizes the merit function. The calculation may also include evaluation of the power error associated with various object vergencies for every direction of sight.

Ophthalmic lens optimization considering wearer's accommodation

Automatic visual inspection (AVI) systems and methods are disclosed for inspecting transmissive lenses using a plurality of camera poses to provide deflectometric measurements using fringe patterns from at least two points of view. Phase and/or modulation visibility values of the deflectometric measurements are measured for two sensitivities of the patterns taken through an inspection area of the lens from the points of view. Defects are detected based on the phase and/or modulation visibility values at a defect location as compared to at the local area. A defect type is classified to be prismatic, transmissive, lenslet or cosmetic based on the phase and/or modulation visibility values. The defect is localized on the front or back surface of the lens based on the phase and modulation visibility values, and a geometry of the lens orientation. The lens can be invalidated based on defect types, numbers, relative positions and locations.

Systems and methods for automatic visual inspection of defects in ophthalmic lenses

An improved method for configuring progressive ophthalmic lenses is disclosed. The method includes computing an improved merit function that modulates reduction of peripheral values of the mean sphere according to the prescription sphere. According to the method the amount of reduction of mean sphere of the lens peripheral regions is dependent on the prescription resulting from a modified merit function. As such, the reduction of peripheral mean sphere varies based on the prescription. According to the modified merit function and resulting improved merit function, the greater the hyperopia and/or presbyopia defined in a prescription, the smaller the reduction of the peripheral value of mean sphere. Accordingly, when the peripheral mean sphere reduction is relaxed, a near region is made wider.

Methods for ophthalmic lens design incorporating a visual acuity profile are disclosed. The methods include applying rules and functions to visual acuity profile data and an ophthalmic prescription to generate ophthalmic lens parameters for a subject. The visual acuity profile data includes a maximum visual acuity for the subject. The visual acuity profile data may also include a focus tolerance or tolerable blur. Tolerable blur may be measured by an ophthalmic professional or extrapolated. The visual acuity profile data may also include eye physical data such as pupil diameter and eye size, accommodation, retinal photoreceptor cell packing information and neural processing information. The visual acuity profile data may also include personal biographic and/or medical information for the subject.

An improved method for configuring progressive ophthalmic lenses is disclosed. The method includes computing a traditional merit function with two changes. First, the merit function computation is limited by calculating only a preferred distance from the meridian rather than until 0. Second, an additional term is added to the merit function that calculates the mean sphere at a point that is at a reduced range from the maximum unwanted cylinder, rather than the entire range.

Progressive lenses with reduced peripheral mean sphere

There is disclosed a method for recommending ophthalmic lens parameters. The method includes receiving user data from a plurality of lens wearers, receiving lens configuration information, and receiving satisfaction information for a plurality of lens wearers. The user data and satisfaction information are analyzed to identify and/or determine lens features based on correlations in the user data and the satisfaction information, including repeating the analyzing when additional user data and additional satisfaction information is received and/or on a regular basis. When new wearer information including a lens prescription for a new wearer and user data for the new wearer is received, lens parameters are produced for the new wearer including evaluating lens manufacturing characteristics based on the analyzing in correlation with the new wearer information.
