This invention relates to a brake clip for use with a disc brake assembly. The brake clip includes a U-shaped section having a base leg with opposing first and second legs extending from the base leg. An abutment leg extends from at least one of the first and second legs of the U-shaped section. An extension leg extends from the abutment leg. The abutment leg is in contact with an anchor bracket of the disc brake assembly and the extension leg is in contact with a brake pad of the disc brake assembly when the brake clip is disposed therebetween.

A disc brake assembly comprises: an anchor bracket having at least one bore formed therein, the bore defining a first axis; a brake caliper slidably secured to the anchor bracket; a pair of brake pads carried by the disc brake assembly; and at least one guide pin adapted to be disposed in the bore of the anchor bracket, the at least one guide pin defining a second axis; wherein when the at least one guide pin is disposed in the at least one bore of the anchor bracket, the second axis of the at least one guide pin is configured to be offset relative to the first axis of the at least one bore such that there is provided at least one defined point of contact between only a portion of a shank portion of the at least one guide pin and a portion of an inner surface of the at least one bore.

A disc brake assembly having a guide pin disposed in a bore of an anchor bracket such that a guide pin axis is offset relative to a bore axis whereby there is provided at least one defined point of contact between only a portion of the guide pin and a portion of an inner surface of the bore. The guide pin includes a groove formed therein, the groove defines a groove axis which is offset relative to the guide pin axis, and a resilient member is disposed in the groove which is operative to bias the guide pin in the bore such that the guide pin axis is offset relative to bore axis to provide the at least one defined point of contact between only a portion of the guide pin and a portion of the inner surface of the bore.

A disc brake assembly comprises an anchor bracket having a pair of arms, a caliper supported on the bracket and a non-rotatable vehicle component having a pair of lugs, each of the lugs provided with a non-threaded opening formed therethrough. The non-threaded openings receive fasteners installed in threaded openings of the bracket to secure the vehicle component to the bracket. The bracket includes on at least one of the arms a first shoulder at a transition between the first and second portions thereof. The vehicle component includes on at least one of the lugs a second shoulder having a shape which is generally complimentary to the shape of the first shoulder. When the vehicle component and bracket are secured together, selected surfaces of the first and second shoulders contact each other to substantially prevent movement of the bracket relative to the vehicle component.

Disc brake assembly with non-rotatable vehicle component and method for producing same

This invention relates to a brake caliper adapted for use in a vehicle disc brake assembly and method and apparatus for producing the same. The method for producing the brake caliper comprises the steps of: (a) providing a mold member having at least two mold sections; (b) providing a core member having at least a first male extension which is adapted to form an integrally cast locating recess in the brake caliper which is used as a locating surface for subsequent machining of the brake caliper; (c) disposing the core member in the mold member in a predetermined position; (d) supplying a suitable material to the mold member so as to form a brake caliper within the mold; (e) removing the brake caliper from the mold, wherein the brake caliper includes an integrally cast locating recess formed therein by the first male extension of the core member; and (f) machining the brake caliper using at least the integrally cast locating recess formed therein as a locating surface.

Brake caliper for disc brake assembly and method and apparatus for producing same

A drum-in-hat (DIH) disc brake assembly has a backing plate configured to be supported relative to an axle flange and to support a drum brake shoe assembly of the drum-in-hat parking and emergency brake; a caliper bracket configured to be supported relative to the axle flange and to support a disc brake caliper assembly of the disc service brake; and a parking brake anchor configured to be supported relative to the axle flange. The parking brake anchor includes an anchor body and an abutment. The anchor body has an opening formed therein which is configured to receive a lever arm of a parking and emergency brake actuator which extends through the opening in the anchor body.

Drum-in-hat disc brake assembly

A drum-in-hat (DIH) disc brake assembly has a disc service brake, a DIH parking and emergency brake, and a parking brake anchor. A backing plate, an axle flange, and a caliper bracket each have at least two mounting apertures formed therethrough. The parking brake anchor includes a bracket portion having a pair of studs extending axially outwardly therefrom. The studs are structured and configured to extend through the respective mounting apertures of the backing plate, the axle flange, and the caliper bracket for securing the caliper bracket, parking brake anchor, and the backing plate to the axle flange.

An improved guide pin structure adapted for use in a vehicle disc brake assembly comprises a first end including a head portion; a second end including an end face and a lead-in zone, the lead-in zone provided with a rounded generally bullet nose shaped radius adapted for insertion into an aperture of a component of the vehicle disc brake assembly; and a center section defining a shank having a slide surface, the center section defining a guide pin axis; wherein the bullet nose shaped radius of the lead-in zone includes an axial offset relative to the end face and a radial offset relative to the slide surface, and wherein the axial offset is larger than the radial offset by a ratio of at least 2 to 1.

A brake pad assembly includes a brake pad including a base portion, a first ear portion, and an opposed second ear portion. The first ear portion and the second ear portion extend outwardly from the base section. The first ear portion includes a first upper section, a first central section, and a first lower section. The second ear portion includes a second upper section, a second central section, and a second lower section. A first clip receives the first ear portion and a second clip receives the second ear portion. The first ear portion includes a first defined contact location and a second defined contact location in relation to the first clip. The second ear portion includes a third defined contact location in relation to the second clip.

Defined brake pad abutment

A disc brake system comprising a brake piston with an annular groove defined in an outer side wall of said piston disposed to slide within a cylinder. A dust boot seal made of a flexible material having a first end and a second end, the first end engaging an outboard end of the cylinder, the second end engaging the annular groove. A plurality of flexible convolutions provided in the dust boot seal between the first and second ends, and the second end defining one or more slots.
