In one example, a platen holder includes a surface to support a platen and a clamp to clamp the platen to the surface. The clamp includes a jaw and an actuator to open and close the jaw. The jaw and the actuator located below a plane of the surface and the jaw movable at the urging of the actuator between an open position in which the platen may be placed on or removed from the surface of the holder and a closed position to hold the platen against the surface.

A method and apparatus for calibrating a vacuum system in a printing device comprising obtaining a reference pressure value for a print zone of the printing device, measuring a calibration pressure value in the print zone of the printing device when the printing device is at an operating location and the vacuum system is in operation, determining an altitude based on the reference pressure value and the calibration pressure value and applying an operating setting to the vacuum system based on the determined altitude.

In one embodiment, a latch for a liquid dispensing component includes: a first part for holding a liquid dispensing component in a seated position in a holder, the first part movable between an open position in which the component may be installed in or removed from the holder and a closed position in which the component is held in the seated position in the holder; and a second part for connecting the component to a liquid supply port, the second part movable, while the first part is in the closed position, between a disconnected position in which the component is not connected to the liquid supply port and a connected position in which the component is connected to the liquid supply port.

An apparatus, method and computer program for controlling the tension in roll-based print media. The apparatus comprises: a motor arranged to apply torque to the roll of print media to create tension in the print media; and processing means arranged to detect first and second electrical drive parameters applied to the motor when the print media is displaced at a substantially constant velocity with a substantially zero tension and a predetermined tension created therein, respectively, and to determine a print media tension value based on a difference between the first and second detected electrical drive parameters.

Controlling tension in roll-based print media

The method comprises the steps of feeding media from a media roll, arranged about an axis, through an input driving device and an output driving device of the media advance mechanism, wherein the output driving device engages the media with lower friction than said input driving device; releasing said input driving device such that it does not engage the media; and causing the media to move in the media advance mechanism such that the media is pulled taut between the roll and the output driving device and later the media slips with respect to said output driving device, whereby the media is aligned at right angles to the roll axis by effect of the friction between the media and the output driving device.

Method for reducing media skew in a media advance mechanism

Ejected liquid forms a latent image on a charged transfer surface. In some invention aspects electrostatic charge is first applied to the surface; inkjet devices eject the image-forming liquid; voltage is established between the devices and surface; another, separate substance associated with the latent image actuates it. In other aspects hydrophobic or hydrophilic material in the surface stabilizes the image on it; electrostatic apparatus, associated with the surface, cooperates with the stabilizing material, further controlling image-droplet position and size. In other aspects a desired image forms on a final printing medium, based on an input electronic image-data array; the liquid ejection is onto an intermediate transfer surface, based on detailed incremental control by the data, forming a latent image representing the desired image. An actuating substance, initially discrete from the liquid, is associated with the image, and a reaction initiated to modify that substance&#x2014;which is transferred from surface to final medium.

Latent inkjet printing, to avoid drying and liquid-loading problems, and provide sharper imaging

A multicolor-printer has a plurality of print stations arranged to generate an image on a recording medium, and a recording medium conveyor. A plurality of similar encoding marks are associated with the conveyor. Sensor arrangements are associated with the print stations, responsive to the encoding marks. They generate signals indicating the conveyor movement with respect to the corresponding print station. An index marking is indicative of a conveyor reference position. The sensor arrangements are responsive to it, thereby providing information about the reference position with respect to the corresponding print station. The printer registers images of different print stations with each other based on the movement and reference-position information.
