A heater assembly for an aerosol generating device includes a flexible heating element; a temperature sensor; and a flexible dielectric backing film with an adhesive on a surface of the flexible dielectric backing film, wherein the temperature sensor and the flexible heating element are supported adjacent to each other on the adhesive on the surface of the flexible backing film. The heater assembly allows for a more precise measurement of the heater temperature to be obtained while simplifying the assembly process.

Heater assembly

A thin film heater includes a flexible heating element and a flexible electrically insulating backing film supporting the heating element; wherein the backing film includes one or both of a fluoropolymer or Polyetheretherketone. By using a fluoropolymer or Polyetheretherketone, improved dielectric and mechanical properties are provided, which are particularly suited to application in an aerosol generating device. A method of fabricating a thin film heater is also provided.

Thin film heater

An aerosol generation device includes an indicator and a controller connectable to a battery and a heater. The heater is configurable to aerosolise a unit of aerosol generating material in an aerosolisation session and the battery is configurable to provide power to the heater for one or more aerosolisation sessions. The controller is configured to measure a charge level of the battery, determine whether the measured charge level is sufficient for only a predetermined number N of aerosolisation sessions by the heater, and to indicate, using the indicator in a first manner, when the measured charge level is sufficient for only N aerosolisation sessions by the heater.

Aerosol generation device battery monitoring

A heater assembly for an aerosol generating device includes a tubular heating chamber and a flexible thin film heater comprising a heating element track supported on a surface of a flexible electrically insulating backing film. The flexible thin film heater is wrapped around an outer surface of the heating chamber with the backing film toward the heating chamber. The invention further includes a temperature sensor comprising a temperature sensing element configured to sense a local temperature, wherein the temperature sensing element is positioned so as to overlap with a portion of heating element track. Because the temperature sensing element overlaps with a portion of the heating element track, the temperature sensor provides a more accurate reading of the temperature of the heating element itself.

A method for controlling an aerosol generating device includes receiving an indication to start an aerosol generating session via a user input element; receiving a temperature of a heater measured by a temperature sensor; retrieving a session counter value from a memory; controlling the heater to perform an aerosol generating session according to the temperature of the heater and the session counter value; and when the temperature of the heater becomes lower than a first predetermined temperature, resetting the session counter value. Control circuitry configured to perform the method and an aerosol generating device including the control circuitry are also provided.

A vapor generating system for an electronic cigarette comprises a main liquid store configured to contain a liquid to be vaporised, a dosing chamber configured to receive liquid from the main liquid store, and a liquid regulating arrangement configured to transfer a metered dose of liquid from the main liquid store to the dosing chamber. The vapor generating system further comprises a vaporizing unit configured to transform said metered dose of liquid into a vapor. The main liquid store and the dosing chamber are arranged in a replaceable cartridge. The cartridge is connectable to a cartridge seating of the electronic cigarette, and fluidic connection between the main liquid store and the dosing chamber is only established when the cartridge is connected to the cartridge seating.

An aerosol generating device for heating an aerosol generating article to generate an aerosol for inhalation by a user includes an induction coil and a heating compartment arranged to receive an aerosol generating article. The device further includes a projecting element which projects into the heating compartment so that at least part of the projecting element is positioned inside an aerosol generating article received in the heating compartment, and at least part of the projecting element is inductively heatable in the presence of a time varying electromagnetic field.
