A printing method wherein a scanning-type printer, or a printer comprising a page-wide array of multiple printheads, is used for printing an image on a substrate in a plurality of adjacent swaths, the method comprising a step of determining positions of boundaries between the adjacent swaths on the basis of image contents to be printed, preferentially in such a way that artefacts are least likely to be visible.

Method of printing swaths of an image on a substrate

A method compensates a failing nozzle of a print head of an inkjet printer. The inkjet printer includes at least one print head, the at least one print head including a plurality of nozzles. A receiving material is moved relatively to the at least one print head. The method includes ejecting droplets of marking material from the plurality of nozzles onto the receiving material forming dots of an image, scanning the printed dots, analyzing the scanned dots for detecting whether a nozzle is failing, determining a group of nozzles, which group of nozzles most likely contains the nozzle that is failing, selecting one nozzle of the group of nozzles, in an image part ejecting compensating droplets of marking material in accordance with a compensation scheme selected as if the one nozzle is failing, scanning the image part, repeating the steps of ejecting and scanning for each other nozzle in the group of nozzles, analyzing each image part, selecting from the image parts a deviating image part, the deviating image part having a highest or lowest print quality of all image parts, selecting a compensation scheme based on the deviating image part, and proceeding with printing, including ejecting compensating droplets in accordance with the selected compensation scheme. An inkjet printer is configured to execute the method.

Ink jet printing method and printer

A method is provided for compensating a failing nozzle in a printhead comprising a series of print elements with nozzles for operation in an inkjet printing process in which a colorant is applied for locally changing an optical density, thereby printing an image. The method comprises at least two compensation mechanisms, each providing a different amount of additional optical density in the environment of a missing dot in the printed image. A nozzle is recorded as a failing nozzle if the associated print element does not apply an ink dot within predetermined specifications. An environment density is determined in an environment of a missing dot associated with said failing nozzle. The environment density is compared with a predetermined threshold, and an appropriate compensation mechanism is selected from the at least two compensation mechanisms. The method is applied in an inkjet printing system for balancing under- and overcompensated optical density.

Method for compensating a failing nozzle

A method for printing an image on an image receiving member is provided, in which a print head having an array of print elements moves in a scanning direction to print image lines and the image receiving member is advanced in a transport direction after printing a swath. In order to obtain various contiguous swaths of print lines without a light or dark line between the swaths, the position of a prior swath printed preceding to a current swath is determined during the printing of the current swath. A digital mask is applied to the print data that is associated with the print elements at the to the prior swath adjoining edge of the current swath in dependence on the determination of the position of the prior swath.

Method for printing contiguous swaths

The invention relates to a method for full bleed printing using an inkjet printing apparatus. In the method for full bleed printing, a reference pattern is applied on the receiving medium in a current swath. The carriage of the inkjet printing apparatus and the receiving medium are moved with respect to one another in the sub scanning direction and in a subsequent swath, the distance between the reference pattern and a side edge of the receiving medium is determined, and based on the determined distance between the reference pattern and the side edge of the receiving medium, dots to be printed in an area between the side edge of the receiving medium and the reference pattern are determined.

Method for full bleed printing

Restoration of edges in rasterized, continuous tone images includes selection of a pair of neighboring pixels that exchange a restoration value to make a steeper transition from a low value on one side of a boundary between the two pixels to a high value at the other side thereof. Although any pair of neighboring pixels is selected, this operation is only performed when four pixels in a direction perpendicular to the boundary, of which the selected pair form the two center pixels, have a monotonely increasing value. The restoration value is based on a difference value of nearest neighboring pixels on the same side of the boundary. This avoids overshooting around edges in an image. The method is advantageous when resealing an image to a higher resolution which occurs when a low resolution image is embedded in a page that is to be printed with a high addressability printer system.

Method to restore edges in rasterized images

A method and system for printing a substrate with an inkjet printing device provided with at least one printhead comprising at least one row of nozzles having a first end and a second end, such that an orientation of the row with respect to the substrate is defined by an imaginary line extending from the first end to the second end, wherein a strip of the substrate is provided with ink drops in a first printing stage and the strip is provided with, supplementary ink drops in a second printing stage, whereby the orientation of the row used in the first printing stage is substantially the opposite to the orientation of the row used in the second printing stage.
