A method for the decomposition of explosive materials into water-soluble products is offered, which can be disposed of in a thermal or biochemical way, which requires only very short reaction times because of the addition of polar, aliphatic, non-saponifiable compounds to a strongly basic, preferably aqueous reaction medium and under temperature control by means of the metered addition of the explosive materials.

Method for the disposal of explosive material

In order to improve the incendiary effect of munitions the hollow compartment of a projectile body of a shattering and incendiary shell or grenade is provided with an incendiary charge and two explosive charges. The incendiary charge possesses at its rear region or end a substantially funnel-shaped recess or cavity into which there protrudes a substantially conically-shaped tip of the first explosive charge of said two explosive charges.

The incendiary mass comprises a zirconium or titanium powder containing a mean grain size of 15-50 .mu.m, to which there is added less than 2%-by-weight of an organic binder, in particular polyvinylacetate because small binder concentrations have a favorable effect upon the action or effect pattern of the combusting or burning metal particles, i.e. upon the combustion time and length of the flight trajectory.

A method of producing an inhibitor coating for a solid propellent charge for protecting against undesired burning-off, the inhibitor coating containing an insulating layer composed of a binder and a filler, a protective- and adhesion layer located between the insulating layer and the propellent charge. The binder consists of a castable mass which has poor smoke developing properties, the filler of a fine granular cooling agent possessing good packability, the protective- and adhesion layer of a completely set or cured polyisocyanate forming a barrier against plasticizer migration. For the insulating layer there is initially admixed a pre-adduct with the cooling agent, and subsequently adding an aromatic diamine, an aliphatic plasticizer or an aliphatic polyol.
