A centrifugal compressor is provided with a collector for receiving refrigerant from the diffuser, and sound absorbent segments are placed within the collector and retained in place against one wall thereof. One method of retention is by way of a ring and a plurality of spring clip members. The silencer segments and the retaining ring and spring clip members are placed into the collector prior to installation of the diffuser. As the diffuser is attached to the collector, one edge engages a side of the ring so as to axially move it into its final fixed position, while at the same time causing the attached spring clip members to be placed in tension against the silencer segments to secure them in place.

A condenser purge probe is provided for use with a condenser enclosing a plurality of condenser tubes, wherein the purge probe has a wave-like form comprising a plurality of alternating wave segments having exterior configurations approximating portions of the exterior configurations of the condenser tubes. The purge probe is selectively positionable in conforming and interlocking relationship with selected ones of the condenser tubes, thereby permitting selective placement of the purge probe in the condenser and substantially reducing vibration of the probe during operation of the condenser.

Condenser purge probe

A centrifugal vapor compressor and a method of assembling the same. The compressor comprises a housing defining an inlet passage and a diffuser passage, and an impeller blade rotatably mounted in the housing between the inlet and diffuser thereof. The compressor further comprises an annular recess defined by the housing and in communication with the diffuser passage, and an annular diffuser valve supported by the housing for axial movement within the annular recess and the diffuser passage between minimum and maximum throttling positions. A stop member is located adjacent to the housing and includes an end section axially located forward of the annular recess to limit forward axial movement of the diffuser valve. A fastening member is radially located external of the annular recess and disengagably secures the stop member to the housing.

A tilt shoe bearing assembly wherein each shoe in the assembly is provided with complete freedom to automatically adjust its position under various running conditions to offset critical running speeds by maintaining a fluid wedge between the shoe and the shaft.
