A system suitable for oxidizing ammonia with oxygen in the presence of catalysts is described. The system includes a reactor equipped with at least one supply line for a reactant gas mixture and at least one discharge line for a process gas; a catalyst comprising at least one transition metal oxide that is not an oxide of a platinum metal; and a device for adjusting a molar ratio of oxygen to ammonia of less than or equal to 1.75 mol/mol in the reactant gas mixture by mixing an oxygen-containing gas stream having an Ocontent of &#x3c;20% by volume with a chosen amount of ammonia. The oxygen-containing gas stream is produced by a device for: diluting an air stream with a gas stream comprising less than 20% by volume oxygen; or depleting oxygen from an oxygen-containing gas mixture, preferably from air; or by a combination thereof.

Method for oxidizing ammonia and system suitable therefor

A process for removing nitrogen protoxide from gas mixtures which 5 contain it, comprising contacting with a catalyst which contains mixed oxides of copper, manganese and rare earth metals in an amount expressed as percentage by weight of CuO, MnO and rare earth metal oxide in the lowest state of valency of 20-45% CuO, 50-60% MnO, and 5-20% rare earth metal oxide.

Process for catalytic decomposition of nitrogen protoxide

Mixed oxides catalysts usable in particular in the full oxidation to COand HO of volatile organic compounds (VOC), in the decomposition of nitrogen protoxide to nitrogen and oxygen and the combustion of CO, Hand CHoff gases in fuel cells, comprising oxides of manganese, copper and LaOand/or NdO, having a percentage composition by weight expressed as MnO, CuO, LaOand/or NdOrespectively of 35-56%, 19-31% and 20-37%. The oxides are supported on inert porous inorganic oxides, preferably alumina.

Mixed oxides catalysts

A catalyst for removing nitrogen protoxide from gas mixtures which contain it, comprising mixed oxides of cobalt, manganese and rare earth metals having composition expressed as percentage by weight of CoO, MnO and transition metal oxide in the lowest state of valence as follows: MnO 38-56%, CoO 22-30%, rare earth metal oxide 22-32%.

Catalyst for the decomposition of nitrogen protoxide

Oxidation catalysts for used in the full oxidation to CO and H O of volatile organic compounds, such as hydrocarbons, comprising mixed oxides of copper, manganese and one or more rare-earth metals, wherein the metals can assume multiple valency states, having a percentage composition by weight, expressed as CuO, MnO and rare-earth oxides, in which the metal has the minimum value of 8-50%, 10-75% and 2-15%, respectively. The oxides are supported on inert porous inorganic oxides.
