Provided are compounds of the following: wherein Ris a saturated or unsaturated cyclic hydrocarbon optionally substituted with an alkyl and/or an OXO-ester, and Ris a Cto Chydrocarbyl, preferably the residue of a Cto COXO-alcohol. Also provided are processes for making the compounds and plasticized polymer compositions containing said compounds.

Alkyl aromatic hydroalkylation for the production of plasticizers

In a process for oxidizing a feed comprising cyclohexylbenzene, the feed is contacted with oxygen and an oxidation catalyst in a plurality of reaction zones connected in series, the contacting being conducted under conditions being effective to oxidize part of the cyclohexylbenzene in the feed to cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide in each reaction zone. At least one of the plurality of reaction zones has a reaction condition that is different from another of the plurality of reaction zones. The different reaction conditions may include one or more of (a) a progressively decreasing temperature and (b) a progressively increasing oxidation catalyst concentration as the feed flows from one reaction zone to subsequent reaction zones in the series.

Oxidation of cyclohexylbenzene

Provided is a process for making non-phthalate plasticizers, by acylating an aromatic compound with a succinic anhydride to form a keto-acid, and then esterifying the keto-acid with C-COXO-alcohols to form a plasticizer compound. The aromatic rings of the aromatic compound may also be optionally hydrogenated.

Aromatic acylation with cyclic anhydride for plasticizer production

A process for producing phenol and/or cyclohexanone is described in which cyclohexylbenzene is contacted with an oxygen-containing gas under conditions effective to produce an oxidation effluent comprising cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide and at least part of cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide is contacted with a cleavage catalyst under conditions effective to produce a cleavage effluent containing phenol and cyclohexanone. At least one of the oxidation effluent and the cleavage effluent contains at least one phenylcyclohexanol as a by-product and the process further comprises contacting the phenylcyclohexanol with a dehydration catalyst comprising a molecular sieve of the MCM-22 family under conditions effective to convert at least part of the phenylcyclohexanol to phenylcyclohexene.

Process for producing phenol and/or cyclohexanone from cyclohexylbenzene

Provided are compounds and processes of making compounds of the formula: wherein x=4 to 8, R is H, Cto Calkyl, &#x2014;C(O)ORor &#x2014;OC(O)R, y=4 to 8, R' is H, Cto Calkyl, and at least one R&#x2032; is &#x2014;C(O)ORor &#x2014;OC(O)R, wherein Ris a branched Cto Calkyl, and their use in polymer compositions.

Substituted naphthalenes as feedstock for plasticizer production

In a process for producing phenol, cyclohexylbenzene is contacted with an oxygen-containing compound in the presence of an oxidation catalyst comprising a cyclic imide under oxidation conditions effective to produce a product comprising cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide and unreacted cyclic imide catalyst. Without removing all the unreacted cyclic imide catalyst, at least a portion of the product is contacted with an acidic molecular sieve under conditions effective to adsorb at least a portion of the unreacted cyclic imide and to convert at least part of the cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide in the product portion into phenol and cyclohexanone.

Process for producing phenol

In a process for producing phenol and/or cyclohexanone, cyclohexylbenzene is contacted with an oxygen-containing gas to produce an oxidation effluent containing cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide. At least a portion of the cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide is then contacted with a cleavage catalyst to produce a cleavage effluent containing phenol and cyclohexanone and by-products including phenylcyclohexanol. The cleavage effluent or a neutralized product thereof also comprises at least one heteroatom-containing compound, which is separated from the cleavage effluent and/or the neutralized product thereof to leave a cleavage fraction lean in the heteroatom-containing compound and containing at least a portion of the phenylcyclohexanol. At least a portion of the phenylcyclohexanol is then contacted with a dehydration catalyst comprising a molecular sieve of the MCM-22 type to convert at least a portion of the phenylcyclohexanol to phenylcyclohexene.

In a process for producing phenol and/or cyclohexanone, cyclohexylbenzene is contacted with an oxygen-containing gas to produce an oxidation effluent containing cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide and the cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide is then contacted with a cleavage catalyst to produce a cleavage effluent containing phenol and cyclohexanone. At least one of the oxidation effluent and the cleavage effluent also contains at least one by-product selected from phenylcyclohexanols and phenylcyclohexanones and the process further comprises contacting the by-product with a dehydration catalyst to convert the by-product to phenylcyclohexene and hydrogenating the phenylcyclohexene to cyclohexylbenzene. The dealkylation and hydrogenation may be conducted in a single stage.

In a process for producing phenol and/or cyclohexanone, cyclohexylbenzene is contacted with an oxygen-containing gas under conditions effective to produce an oxidation effluent containing cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide. At least a portion of the oxidation effluent containing cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide is then contacted with a cleavage catalyst under conditions effective to produce a cleavage effluent containing phenol and cyclohexanone. At least one of the oxidation effluent and the cleavage effluent contains a by-product comprising a mixture of isomers of phenylcyclohexanol and/or phenylcyclohexanone, in which the 2-phenyl isomer(s) is present in an amount less than 20% of the mixture. At least a portion of the at least one effluent containing the isomer mixture is contacted with a dehydration catalyst under conditions effective to convert at least a portion of the mixture to isomers of phenylcyclohexene, with very low ring rearrangement to produce 1-methylcyclopentenylbenzene and cyclopentenylmethylbenzene.

In a process for producing cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide, cyclohexylbenzene is contacted with oxygen to produce a reaction product comprising cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide and unreacted cyclohexylbenzene. The reaction product is then maintained under conditions such that crystals of cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide form and separate from the reaction product. The cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide crystals are then recovered from the reaction product.

Production of cyclohexylbenzene hydroperoxide

In a process for oxidizing a hydrocarbon to a product comprising at least one of the corresponding hydroperoxide, alcohol, ketone, carboxylic acid and dicarboxylic acid, the hydrocarbon is contacted with an oxygen-containing compound in at least one oxidation zone in the presence of a catalyst comprising a cyclic imide having an imide group of formula (I): wherein X represents an oxygen atom, a hydroxyl group, or an acyloxy group and wherein the oxygen-containing compound supplied to said at least one oxidation zone has a water content of less than or equal to 0.6% by weight of the oxygen-containing compound.
