In a production environment, an entry is logged in a log journal to represent a read operation on a record of a file. A problematic transaction in a batch job is selected and set of operations performed by the problematic transaction is intercepted. The set includes a combination of read, write, update, delete operations, and operations that use external resources. A window of entries is determined in the log journal where the entry is a beginning entry in the window and an ending entry is a last entry captured in the log journal before detecting the error. From the window, those entries are filtered that correspond to the record. A final value of the record is copied from the production environment to a development environment and rolled back in the development environment to an initial value stored in the beginning entry. The problematic transaction is performed in the development environment.

Selective data synchronization to troubleshoot production environment failures

A method and apparatus that has the ability to convert display pages of interactive legacy applications for use on a network, such as the Internet. The display source code of the legacy application is first parsed into a network-based language, such as XML, preserving the structure and hierarchy of the display source to create a plurality of network user interface pages. The network user interface pages are then converted to a dynamic platform-independent language in which the static portion of the display page is converted to a web page, such as a JavaServer Page, and the dynamic portion of the display page for input/output/feedback is converted to data objects, such as JavaBeans. The intermediate network user interface pages may be stored on the server with the legacy application. The conversion program to convert the intermediate network user interface pages may be stored on a computer program product, a client connected to the server with the legacy application, or the server itself. The method of this invention provides an environment such that when an application is invoked from a client, the runtime data manager may use either the traditional display source code or the generated intermediate network user interface pages as its user interfaces. Thus, the legacy application's data stream need not be redirected but is already in the format accessible to the network server across the network to the network user agent as network pages, such as JavaServer Pages with the dynamic input/output/feedback data as JavaBeans.

Method and system for converting user interface source code of a legacy application to web pages

Run-time data and visual layout definition data can be stored in a storage medium. The run-time data and the visual layout definition data can be associated with a terminal application, which is configured to communicate with a host server in blocks of data in accordance with a standardized synchronous terminal protocol. A visual screen for the terminal application can be generated by combining the layout data and the run-time data. The generating can occur when the terminal application is disconnected from the host server or host server emulator. The generated visual screen, which is a screen of a front-end of a terminal application interface, can be presented.

Method and system for managing development objects for computer program code. One development object comprises source code written in a positional language while the other development object comprises a document object model (DOM) that corresponds to the source code. The two development objects are synchronized using a set of synchronizer objects. In particular, the various character ranges defined by the positional language are used to efficiently map a portion of the source code to a corresponding portion of the DOM. As a result, a synchronizer object can readily update a development object with a modification received for the other development object.
