A filter assembly includes a filter vessel having an inlet, an outlet, and defining a filter chamber therebetween. A basket assembly is removably supported within said filter chamber and has a diameter less than the diameter of the filter chamber so as to define an annular flow path about the basket assembly. The basket assembly includes an outer, permeable member and an inner, permeable member having a diameter which is less than the diameter of the outer, permeable member such that the inner, permeable member is received with in the outer, permeable member so as to define an annular space therebetween and an inner flow path. The basket assembly supports a bag-type filter over both the inner and outer permeable members bounding the annular space therebetween. The bag-type filter includes a first portion having a first, larger diameter and a second portion having a second, reduced diameter. A transition portion is disposed between the first and second portions of the bag-type filter.

Extended area filter basket assembly and filter bag therefor

A liquid deionizing twin bed apparatus of the type used in conjunction with a pressure vessel having an inlet for receiving untreated ionized liquid and an outlet through which the treated deionized liquid exits the vessel. The apparatus is comprised of at least one liquid permeable container having an anionic exchanger bed containing materials adapted to absorb one type of charged particle from the fluid and also having a cationic exchanger bed containing materials to absorb oppositely charged particles from the liquid flowing therethrough. The anionic and cationic beds are positioned in series in the liquid permeable container relative to fluid flow therethrough and the liquid permeable container is adapted to be removably housed within the vessel for removing spent anionic and cationic materials and replacing spent anionic and cationic materials by inserting a new liquid permeable container having unspent anionic and cationic materials into the vessel.

Liquid deionizing twin bed apparatus

A filtering system comprises an outer housing into which fluid enters tangentially through a side inlet port to create rotational flow therein. Solid contaminants which clog filtering media are precipitated to the bottom of housing through action of centrifugal force in rotational flow. An inner can, disposed within the housing shrouds a filter cartridge. Unfiltered fluid flows rotationally into the inner can and is filtered through a vertical cylindrical filter cartridge. Filtered fluid flows up through the center of said cartridge to a clean fluid chamber below a domed cover and exists downwardly through a vertical outlet tube extending through the filter cartridge to an outlet port in the bottom of the housing. Gases in the system are collected in the clean fluid chamber and transported by the fluid flow through the outlet tube, thereby automatically purging gases from the filtering system.

Filtering system utilizing rotational flow and dual chambers

A filter cartridge (10) for filtering liquid having an internal liquid trap (28). The cartridge (10) has a cylindrical housing (12) having a closed top end (14) and bottom end (16), and a side wall (30) which is perforated to allow liquid to pass through. A tube (22) extends from a liquid inlet (18) at the bottom end (16) of the housing toward the top end (14), where the tube (22) is open to allow the liquid to flow into the housing (12). The cartridge (10) includes a filter media (26) inside the housing spaced apart from the conduit (22) so that the filter media (26), the bottom end (16) and the length of the conduit (22) below where the conduit is open form a trap (28). This trap catches liquid flowing into the housing (12) through the conduit (22) whereby the liquid may escape the cartridge (10) only through the filter media (26) thereby preventing back flow through the conduit (22).
