A composition comprises or is produced from polyester, a first modifier, and a second modifier wherein the first modifier includes a polymer that is incompatible with poly(hydroxyalkanoic acid) and is not an acid-containing or acid generating polymer. Also disclosed is an article comprising or produced from the composition. Further disclosed is a process combining a first modifier, a second modifier, or both, with a poly(hydroxyalkanoic acid) to produce the composition and optionally injection molding or thermoforming the composition into the article.

Polyester composition resistant to hydrolysis

Disclosed are oriented films comprising toughened poly(hydroxy-alkanoic acid) resin compositions comprising poly(hydroxyalkanoic acid) and an impact modifier comprising an ethylene copolymer made from monomers (a) ethylene; (b) one or more olefins of the formula CH&#x2550;C(R)COR, where Ris hydrogen or an alkyl group with 1-6 carbon atoms, such as methyl, and Ris glycidyl; and optionally (c) one or more olefins of the formula CH&#x2550;C(R)COR, where Ris hydrogen or an alkyl group with 2-8 carbon atoms and Ris an alkyl group with 1-8 carbon atoms, such as methyl, ethyl, or butyl. The ethylene copolymer may further be made from carbon monoxide monomers. The compositions may further comprise one or more ethylene/acrylate and/or ethylene/vinyl ester polymers, ionomers, and cationic grafting agents. Also disclosed are packaging materials and containers comprising the oriented films.

Article comprising poly(hydroxyalkanoic acid)

Disclosed is a composition comprising poly(hydroxyalkanoic acid), plasticizer, and optionally a nucleator, an impact modifier, or both. Also disclosed is a process for producing a thermoformed two-dimensional article having a surface area to thickness ratio greater than about 200:1 inch.

Plasticized poly(hydroxyalkanoic acid) composition

Disclosed are toughened poly(hydroxyalkanoic acid) resin compositions comprising poly(hydroxyalkanoic acid), such as polylactic acid, and an impact modifier comprising an ethylene copolymer made from monomers (a) ethylene; (b) one or more olefins of the formula CH&#x2550;C(R)COR, where Ris hydrogen or an alkyl group with 2-8 carbon atoms and Ris an alkyl group with 1-8 carbon atoms, such as methyl, ethyl, or butyl; and (c) one or more olefins of the formula CH&#x2550;C(R)COR, where Ris hydrogen or an alkyl group with 1-6 carbon atoms, such as methyl, and Ris glycidyl. The ethylene copolymer may further be made from carbon monoxide monomers. The compositions may further comprise one or more ethylene/acrylate and/or ethylene/vinyl ester polymers, ionomers, and cationic agents.

Toughened poly(hydroxyalkanoic acid) compositions

Toughened poly(lactic acid) compositions

Liquid crystalline polymers (LCP) with relatively high melting points are prepared by a process which includes solid state polymerization of a (pre)polymer, which contains alkali metal cations, to raise the LCP molecular weight. The presence of the alkali metal cations in the (pre)polymer usually results in a final polymer with less color and/or a higher melting point. The LCPs are useful as molding resins and for films.

Compatibility improvement in aromatic polyesters with mineral fillers

Polymers containing &#x3b1;-methylenelact(ones)(ams) such as &#x3b1;-methylenebutyrolactones are useful in blends with other polymers. For examples such polymers which have reactive groups are toughened by mixing with a rubbery material which has complimentary reactive groups, or polymers containing repeat units derived from &#x3b1;-methylenelact(ones)(ams) are toughened by mixing with polymeric core-shell particles having an elastomeric core and a specified thermoplastic shell. The properties of thermoplastics are also improved by blending with &#x3b1;-methylenelact(ones)(ams) such as &#x3b1;-methylenebutyrolactones containing (co)polymers.

Blends of poly[&#x3b1;-methylenelact(one)(am)] homo-and copolymers

Toughened polyoxymethylene-poly(lactic acid) resin compositions comprising polyoxymethylene, poly(lactic acid), and an impact modifier comprising an ethylene copolymer impact modifier made from monomers (a) ethylene; (b) one or more olefins of the formula CH&#x2550;C(R)COR, where Ris hydrogen or an alkyl group with 2-8 carbon atoms and Ris an alkyl group with 1-8 carbon atoms, such as methyl, ethyl, or butyl; and (c) one or more olefins of the formula CH&#x2550;C(R)COR, where Ris hydrogen or an alkyl group with 1-6 carbon atoms, such as methyl, and Ris glycidyl. The ethylene copolymer impact modifier may further be made from carbon monoxide monomers. The compositions may further comprise one or more ethylene/acrylate and/or ethylene/vinyl ester polymers, ionomers, and cationic grafting agents.

Toughened polyoxymethylene-poly(lactic acid) compositions

A composition for forming a crystalline thermoplastic (such as polyacetal) composition for improving compatibility using a ternary blend that includes a mineral filler and elastomer material and an article made therefrom. The mineral filler may be coated or uncoated.

A composition and method for forming a hydrocarbon polymer composition of molded articles that exhibit desirable combinations of stiffness and impact resistance, wherein the composition contains a mineral filler.

Toughened high modulus mineral filled polyoxymethylene polymers

Polymers containing &agr;-methylenelact(ones)(ams) such as &agr;-methylenebutyrolactones are useful in blends with other polymers. For examples such polymers which have reactive groups are toughened by mixing with a rubbery material which has complimentary reactive groups, or polymers containing repeat units derived from &agr;-methylenelact(ones)(ams) are toughened by mixing with polymeric core-shell particles having an elastomeric core and a specified thermoplastic shell. The properties of thermoplastics are also improved by blending with &agr;-methylenelact(ones)(ams) such as &agr;-methylenebutyrolactones containing (co)polymers.

Blends of poly&lsqb;&agr;-methylenelact(one)(am&rsqb; homo- and copolymers

A toughened polyacetal resin composition, and a process for making same, is provided by mixing a polyacetal masterbatch component, prepared from polyacetal and a relatively large amount of polyurethane, with a polyacetal dilution component so as to generate a blended composition in which the content of the thermoplastic polyurethane is about 1 to about 15 wt % of the total weight of the blended composition.

Toughened polyacetal resin composition

A multiphase polymer composition having increased impact resistance at low temperatures, includes a blend of an ionomer dispersed in nylon 6, a polyamide other than nylon 6, and a composition that includes EP or EPDM grafted with 0.05 to 3 weight percent of a carboxylic acid or any anhydride thereof. The ionomer is formed from a partially neutralized acid copolymer precursor, the acid copolymer precursor having polymerized in-chain units derived from the monomers comprising: (a) ethylene, (b) 2 to 25 weight percent of (meth)acrylic acid, (c) 0.1 to 15 weight percent of a dicarboxylic acid monomer, (d) 0-40 weight percent of a C1-C8-alkyl alkyl acrylate, the ionomer being formed by neutralization of from about 5 to 90 percent of the total number of carboxylic acid units in the copolymer with metal ions. The (meth)acrylic acid and dicarboxylic acid monomer is from 4 to 26 weight percent of the acid copolymer precursor, and the total comonomer content preferably does not exceed 50 weight percent of the acid copolymer precursor. Preferably, the ionomer has a melt index of from 0.01 to 100 grams/10 minutes, and the ratio of the number of moles of metal ions in the ionomer to the number of moles of the carboxylic acid or any anhydride thereof in the grafted EP or EPDM is greater than 1.0.

Impact modified polyamide compositions

The invention provides a composition that exhibits good adhesion to polyamide material and other materials, comprising 60 to 99 weight percent of a copolyester elastomer, and 1 to 40 weight percent of a novolac resin, based on the total weight of the copolymer elastomer and the novolac resin only, wherein the composition comprises greater than 50 weight percent copolyester elastomer based on the total weight of the composition. The invention also concerns an article comprising at least two materials bonded together at one or more defined contact surfaces, a first one of the bonded materials comprising a copolyester elastomer and a novolac resin. Such bodies can be welded, injection molded, and extruded simultaneously or sequentially.
