A method of manufacturing a chassis of an HIS includes manufacturing a chassis having a base panel with an upper chassis surface. The method further includes attaching at least one resilient component to the upper chassis surface and that upwardly presents an adhesive surface to fixedly engage and to provide vibration damping for a storage drive that is inserted on the adhesive surface during assembly of the IHS.

A method for cooling IT equipment of a velocity cooled (VC) mobile data center (MDC) includes: determining if a velocity of the VC MDC is above a minimum threshold velocity that enables ram air cooling of IT equipment within the VC MDC; and in response to the velocity not being above the minimum threshold velocity, activating a secondary cooling source to provide a flow of cooling air across the IT equipment within the VC MDC, the flow of cooling air supplementing the ram air cooling.

A method for implementing power capping in a velocity cooled (VC) mobile data center (MDC). A management information handling system (IHS) applies a power cap for all power consuming components of the VC MDC based, in part, on the detected velocity of the VC MDC. The detected velocity is compared to an outside air cooling threshold velocity. In response to the detected velocity being below the outside air cooling threshold velocity, a first power cap is selected, based on the detected velocity being below the outside air cooling threshold velocity. In response to the detected velocity being at or above the outside air cooling threshold velocity, a second, higher, power cap is selected, based in part on the detected velocity being at or above the outside air cooling threshold velocity. Power capping is implemented to conserve available onboard power for IT equipment processing, based on availability of ram air cooling.

The LC_IHS further includes a supply conduit in fluid communication with the first chassis to cool a first liquid cooled node. The supply conduit includes a plurality of fluid paths configured such that when a first fluid path of the plurality of fluid paths is interrupted, cooling of the first liquid cooled node continues.

A storage compartment is configured within the container and is accessible from an exterior of the container. The storage compartment includes a plurality of individual storage slots each providing a docking port for connecting a removable data storage device (RDSD). At least one RDSD is inserted into a first storage slot of the plurality of storage slots. The RDSD facilitates rapid transfer of data to the MDC from edge data acquisition systems and to a data center facility. A management information handling system (IHS) is communicatively coupled to the HCS and to each docking port. The management IHS is configured to detect insertion of an RDSD into a docking port and coordinate a transfer of data from the RDSD to the HCS.

A rack-level management controller receives node-level power-usage data and settings from several block controllers, including current power consumption and an initial power budget for each node. A power consumption profile is generated based on the power-usage data for each node. A total available system power of the IHS is identified. A system power cap is determined based on the power consumption profiles and the total available system power. A current power budget is determined for each node based on an analysis of at least one of the power consumption profile, the initial power budget, the current power consumption, the system power cap, and the total available system power. A power subsystem regulates power budgeted and supplied to each node based on the power consumption profiles and the system power cap.

Predictive power capping and power allocation to computing nodes in a rack-based information handling system

A direct-interface liquid-cooled (DL) Rack Information Handling System (RIHS) includes liquid cooled (LC) nodes each comprising a chassis received in a respective chassis-receiving bay of a rack and containing heat-generating functional components. Each LC node is configured with a system of conduits to receive direct injection of cooling liquid to regulate the ambient temperature of the node and provide cooling to the functional components inside the node by removing heat generated by the heat-generating functional components. A cooling subsystem has a liquid rail formed by more than one node-to-node, Modular Liquid Distribution (MLD) conduits, each including first and second terminal connections attached on opposite ends of a central conduit that can be rack-unit dimensioned. The MLD conduits seal to and enable fluid transfer between a port of a selected LC node and a port of an adjacent LC node.

A computer-implemented method enables global throttling of processing nodes in a rack-configured information handling system (RIHS). A rack-level management controller receives power-usage data and operating parameters associated with processing nodes within separately-controlled blocks of the RIHS. A power subsystem of the RIHS regulates an amount of power supplied to the processing nodes of the RIHS based on the power-usage data and operating parameters for the processing nodes and a total amount of available power for distribution within the RIHS. In response to detecting a condition that reduces the total amount of available power for distribution within the IHS, the management controller autonomously initiates global throttling of the processing nodes within the IHS to reduce power consumption by at least one of the processing nodes. The global throttling is completed via a signal transfer over a select Ethernet cable wire to connected block controllers that control the processing nodes.

An apparatus, an information handling system (IHS) and a method for supporting air flow management in a rack includes attaching a baffle made of a non-porous material with vertically-spaced apertures or air flow directing (AFD) sections with flanges that direct cooling air flow from heat dissipating electronic components of the rack towards a rear of the rack. The baffle is attached to a rear section of a chassis of the IHS. The baffle provides physical separation of (i) a cold aisle located towards a front section of the rack and the electronic components inserted into the rack chassis from (ii) a hot aisle located towards a rear of the rack. The flanges of the AFD section folds inward towards the electronic components to create a funnel for receiving a flow of cooling air from the hot aisle.

A system includes a volumetric container having a first aft-facing wall and configured with an information technology (IT) compartment. The container is designed for placement on a trailer capable of being moved in at least an aft-facing direction at different velocities. The container includes at least one heat generating information technology (IT) equipment that operates to provide large scale data computation when provided with a flow of cooling air sufficient to maintain the IT equipment below a maximum operating temperature value. An air intake opening placed in the aft-facing wall provides an air intake path at which exterior air ingresses into the container at a high velocity to provide a flow of cooling air through the IT compartment, maintaining the ambient condition required by the heat generating IT equipment to continue large scale data processing whenever the container is moving in the aft-facing direction at a minimum threshold velocity.

System and method to enable large-scale data computation during transportation

A velocity cooled (VC) mobile data center (MDC) utilizes exhaust/residual heat to preheat cooling air. The MDC includes a volumetric container with heat generating information technology (IT) equipment positioned therein, having a minimum operating temperature. The MDC includes a ram air based cooling subsystem that provides a flow of outside cooling air to cool the IT equipment when the MDC is mobile. An engine of the transport vehicle connected to the container generates exhaust/residual heat during operation. The MDC includes an exhaust heat re-routing subsystem, fluidly coupled to the container, and which channels the exhaust heat from the transport vehicle engine towards the container to provide additional heating of ingested ram air to bring the ambient temperature of the IT equipment up to within the specific range of operating temperatures, above the minimum operating temperature. A flow control mechanism selectively opened or closed to direct the exhaust heat flow.

A ram air system for cooling information handling systems (IHSs) in a mobile data center includes a volumetric container having a first aft-facing wall, the container designed for placement on a trailer capable of being moved in at least an aft-facing direction. At least one heat generating information technology (IT) equipment is positioned within the enclosure. The container is configured with an air intake opening placed in the aft-facing wall providing an intake path for exterior air to ingress into the container at a high velocity to provide a flow of cooling air that cools the at least one heat generating IT equipment while the trailer is moving in the forward/aft direction. An air intake damper is positioned within the air intake opening and is capable of being selectively positioned in one of a plurality of air intake positions, ranging from a fully open position to a fully closed position.

An information handling system (IHS) includes a lightweight server chassis having a surface that includes a plurality of slots formed within the chassis surface. Each slot is sized to receive a specific compute component of a plurality of different compute components that collectively provide a fully functional IHS. In one embodiment, at least one slot that is formed within the chassis surface is sized to receive a respective one of the more than one type of compute component of a plurality of different compute components. Thereby, an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) can flexibly ship at least portions of the IHS to an end user destination for possible downstream reconfiguration and assembly.
