Technologies are presented for providing circularly polarized antenna topologies based on multiple bent-dipole elements over a ground plane configuration. In some examples, Moxon based cross radiating elements may be fed through a hybrid 90&#xb0; quadrature coupler. The radiating element may be widened and tapered relative to a standard bent-dipole configuration forming bow tie structures with approximately 90&#xb0; bends to achieve broadband operation. The tapered branches may be split into two sub-branches and the bend angle increased to further increase bandwidth and gain of the antenna.

Technologies are generally described for detecting diseased tissues through fiber optic based Raman spectroscopy, image acquisition, and/or RF induced hyperthermia treatment of the detected tissues in an integrated manner. A fiber optic bundle for carrying optical and RF signals for the spectroscopy, visual imaging, and RF ablation may also be used to detect a temperature of the treated tissue such that level and duration of the RF signal can be controlled for optimum results. A shielding configuration in the form of a coaxial waveguide of the fiber optic bundle may be used to guide and deliver the RF signal. Sources and detectors for the optical and RF signals may be integrated into an endoscopic probe containing the fiber optic bundle or be externally positioned. An integrated or remote controller may be employed to manage the optical imaging, spectroscopy, RF ablation, and thermal sensing operations.

Apparatus and accompanying methods for the detection and subsequent destruction or disablement of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) while maintaining a satisfactory level of human safety. Operationally, our inventive method and apparatus detects the IED using one or more methods including: detecting internal battery components; detecting magnetic signature(s) of the IED; detecting a characteristic energy spectrum of the IED; and/or detecting characteristic chemical signatures of the device(s). Once detected, the device may be further characterized and then subsequently deactivated and/or destroyed by a shaped pulse charge directed at the device or its power source (battery) from a safe distance.

Improvised explosive device detection/destruction/disablement

An autonomous onboard absolute position and orientation referencing system provides a means of efficaciously and economically embedding guidance and control components into the fins of supersonic, highly maneuverable small, medium-caliber and long range munitions. Embedded resonant cavities form an integral part of the referencing system. The magnitude and phase information received by the integral antennas is used to determine the munition orientation. Embedded sensors provide continuous, onboard information about the angular orientation of the munition, such as its pitch, yaw, and roll angles, as well as its absolute position relative to a ground station.

A evanescent resonator device includes a short-circuited evanescent waveguide and loading capacitor. The evanescent waveguide of the resonator includes a single length of evanescent transmission line terminated in short circuit, a first support substrate having a predetermined dielectric constant, the first support substrate having a top surface and a bottom surface; a dielectrically loaded feed network including: (a) a second substrate arranged on the top surface of the first support substrate, the second substrate having a predetermined dielectric constant that is higher than the first support substrate; and (b) a metal strip arranged on an upper surface of the second substrate, so that the second substrate is arranged between the first support substrate and the second substrate. A ground plane is arranged on the bottom surface of the first support substrate, the support substrate includes a hollow metalized center area being open on an upper end closest to the second substrate. A ratio of the predetermined dielectric constants of said second substrate to said first support substrate ranges from approximately 2 to 200 so to permit reduced size because of the reduction in required capacitance without a reduction in Q value.
