A packaged connector 1 comprising, a preassembled connector 1 in a transparent package 25, a conductive contact 7 having a friction socket 18 facing an open end of the package 25, and a loose ferrule 24 precisely positioned by the package 25 concentrically with a barrel 21 of the connector 1 for one step crimp connection of the ferrule 24 on a shield 5 of a cable 2, a concentric space 31 defined between the ferrule 24 and the barrel 21 to receive the shield 5 of the cable 2.

An electrical connector comprises; a conductive outer shell 2 for releasable connection with an electrical coaxial cable, a dielectric body 3 coaxially surrounded by the outer shell, and a conductive center contact 4 coaxially surrounded by the dielectric body and having an electrical contact portion 14 for releasable connection with the coaxial cable and an electrical terminal portion 13 for connection with an electrical circuit, characterized in that, the center contact has a portion having a roughened outer surface 18, the dielectric body engages the center contact and has a portion flowed into interlocked engagement with the roughened outer surface.

Method of constructing a coaxial connector

An electrical connector comprises: a conductive outer shell 2 for releasable connection with an electrical coaxial cable, a dielectric body 3 coaxially surrounded by the outer shell, and a conductive center contact 4 coaxially surrounded by the dielectric body and having an electrical contact portion 14 for releasable connection with the coaxial cable and an electrical terminal portion 13 for connection with an electrical circuit, characterized in that, the center contact has a portion having a roughened outer surface 18, the dielectric body engages the center contact and has a portion flowed into interlocked engagement with the roughened outer surface.

Coaxial connector with improved retention of a center contact

According to the invention a coaxial connector comprises a conductive outer shell 2 for releasable connection with an electrical coaxial cable 7, a dielectric body 3 coaxially surrounded by the outer shell 2 with a compression fit, and a conductive center contact 4 coaxially surrounded by the dielectric body 3, a recess 27 in the periphery of the dielectric body 3 encircles the dielectric body 3 and is aligned with openings 25 extending through the thickness of the outer shell 2, and a solidifiable material 24 in the recess 27 adheres to the outer shell 2 to form a rigid collar 29 projecting radially inward to engage the dielectric body 3 and resist movement of the dielectric body 3.

Coaxial connector with interlocked dielectric body

A coaxial connector includes matable plug and jack connector members with the plug connector member including inner and outer shell members crimpably secured together along small diameter sections thereof to electrically connect an outer conductor of a coaxial cable therebetween while the center conductor of the cable is crimpably connected to a center contact member secured in a dielectric member within a large diameter section of the inner shell member. A hood section of the outer shell member includes an internal latching groove that matably connects with radiussed projections of spring contact members of a jack connector member when the plug connector member electrically mates with the jack connector member with center contact members of the plug and jack connector members electrically connecting with one another.

Coaxial plug and jack connectors

A coaxial electrical connector comprises an outer contact assembly including a crimping and sealing ferrule that is disposed onto an outer insulating jacket of a multiple outer conductor coaxial cable and includes an inner annular recess in which is disposed a sealing member; a strain relief section of the ferrule is crimpable onto the outer jacket and an outer conductor of the multiple outer conductors of the cable is disposed on a ferrule element. A center contact is crimpable onto a center conductor of the cable and is insertable into a bore of an inner dielectric member of an inner contact assembly and secured therein, whereafter an inner conductor of the multiple outer conductors of the cable is crimpable onto an inner contact of the inner contact assembly thereby forming a terminated inner contact assembly. The terminated inner contact assembly is then positioned into a bore of an outer dielectric member of the outer contact assembly and secured therein when a crimping ferrule section of the outer contact assembly is crimped onto the ferrule element with the outer conductor of the outer conductors electrically connected therebetween.

Coaxial electrical connector for multiple outer conductor coaxial cable

A coaxial electrical connector comprises a crimping and sealing ferrule that is disposed onto an outer insulating jacket of a multiple outer conductor coaxial cable and includes inner and outer annular recesses in which are disposed sealing members; a strain relief section of the ferrule is crimpable onto the outer jacket and an outer conductor of the outer conductors of the cable is bent back along an outer surface of the ferrule. A center contact is crimpable onto a center conductor of the cable and is insertable into a bore of an inner dielectric member of an inner contact assembly and secured therein, whereafter an inner conductor of the outer conductors of the cable is crimpable onto an inner contact of the inner contact assembly thereby forming a terminated inner contact assembly. The terminated inner contact assembly is then insertable into a bore of an outer dielectric member of an outer contact assembly and secured therein while the crimping and sealing ferrule extends along a crimping ferrule section of the outer contact assembly, the crimping ferrule section being crimpable onto the crimping and sealing ferrule with the outer conductor of the outer conductors electrically connected therebetween, and the sealing members form inner and outer seals on the cable.

An electrical connector is disclosed for terminating semirigid coaxial cable, and comprises a grip ring having a continuous rearward end with multiple spline fingers extending forwardly therefrom and grooves on its inner surface, and a bored tubular shell member having a contoured internal diameter to accept the cable and the grip ring and grooves having an adhesive therealong extending along an outer part of the bore of the shell member. The cable is drawn through the grip ring and the shell member, and as the grip ring is press inserted into a rearward end of the shell member, the spline fingers resiliently deflect inwardly along the shell member contour, and embed into the outer semirigid cable sheath to establish electrical contact therewith and the grooved bore scores the outside surface of the grip ring during its movement into engagement with the cable sheath which causes the grooves of the grip ring to score the cable sheath, thereby providing antitorque connection therebetween. The adhesive extends along the engaging surfaces of the shell member and grip ring thereby sealing the connection and increasing the torque and tensile resistance thereof.

Connector for semirigid coaxial cable

A coaxial connector for electrical connection to a microwave package comprises an outer metal body member having a dielectric-receiving bore extending therethrough which has an inner section and an outer section, the diameter of the inner section being smaller than the diameter of the outer section thereby defining a shoulder therebetween. A dielectric member of substantially the same diameter as that of the inner section disposed along the dielectric-receiving bore and having a contact-receiving bore extending therethrough along which a center contact member is disposed. Aligned holes extending through the dielectric member and the center contact member in which a dielectric securing member is disposed. Ends of the securing member extend slightly beyond the outside surface of the dielectric member in engagement with the shoulder, and a securing ring member tightly disposed between the outer surface of the dielectric member and the outer section of the dielectric-receiving bore and in engagement with the ends of the securing member thereby securing the dielectric member and center contact member in the outer metal body member.

Coaxial connector for microwave packages

An electrical connector is disclosed for terminating semi-rigid coaxial cable, and comprises a grip ring having a solid rearward end and multiple spline fingers extending forwardly therefrom, and a bored tubular shell member having a contoured internal diameter to accept the cable and the grip ring. The cable is drawn through the grip ring and the shell member, and as the grip ring is press inserted into a rearward end of the shell member, the spline fingers resiliently deflect inwardly along the shell member contour, and embed into the outer semi-rigid cable sheath to establish electrical contact therewith.

A method is disclosed for terminating semirigid coaxial cable that is phase matched which is accomplished by cutting a length of coaxial cable to the exact or approximate desired electrical length. A coaxial connector is permanently terminated onto one end of the cable and a phase-matching test connector is positioned onto the other end of the cable. The cable is tested to determine if the electrical length of the cable is correct. If it is, the test connector is removed and another coaxial connector is permanently terminated onto the other end of the cable. If the electrical length of the cable is too long, the test connector is removed, the cable is trimmed to the correct length, the test connector is reapplied onto the cable, the cable is retested, and if now correct, the other coaxial connector is permanently terminated onto the cable.

Phase-matched semirigid coaxial cable and method for terminating the same

An electrical connector is disclosed for terminating semi-rigid coaxial cable, and comprises a grip ring having a continuous rearward end with multiple spline fingers extending forwardly therefrom and grooves on its inner surface, and a bored tubular shell member having a contoured internal diameter to accept the cable and the grip ring and grooves extending along an outer part of the bore of the shell member. The cable is drawn through the grip ring and the shell member, and as the grip ring is press inserted into a rearward end of the shell member, the spline fingers resiliently deflect inwardly along the shell member contour, and embed into the outer semi-rigid cable sheath to establish electrical contact therewith and the grooved bore score the outside surface of the grip ring during its movement into engagement with the cable sheath which causes the grooves of the grip ring to score the cable sheath, thereby providing antitorque connection therebetween.

Connector for semi-rigid coaxial cable

A miniature right angle coaxial cable connector is disclosed for cable to printed circuit board interconnection, and comprises mateable cable terminating and printed circuit board mounted units. The cable terminating unit consists of two tubular bodies joined at right angles, having respective mateable contact members seated therein; with one of the contacts terminating the center conductor of the coaxial cable. The printed circuit board mounted unit mates with the cable terminating unit, and consists of a unitary right angle profiled tubular shell open along an outer side for accommodating the receipt of a right angled pin therein. A second elongate pin contact is vertically inserted into an outer wall of the right angle shell body, and remote ends of the straight and right angled pin contacts project downwardly in parallel from the tubular shell for insertion through a printed circuit board.

Miniature coaxial connector assembly

A filtered adapter assembly is disclosed for retrofitting electronic filtering elements between matable coaxial connector units, and comprises a contact sub-assembly, tubular adapting means including an adapter shell, a conductive retention ring, and a pair of dielectric inserts. The contact sub-assembly includes a ceramic filter sleeve having a pin extending therethrough and a flanged collar around the filter sleeve. The adapter shell is provided with a step profiled throughbore receiving the contact sub-assembly therein with clearance, and the retention ring is press-fit into the bore against the collar flange to secure the sub-assembly within the bore, and to electrically common the sub-assembly filter sleeve and the adapter shell. The dielectricinserts are subsequently inserted into the adapter shell with alternate ends of the sub-assembly pin extending therethrough to insulate the pin from the adapter shell.
