A process for regeneration of electrolytes, in particular Na SO , from waste pickles created during picking of stainless steel, in particular stainless steel strips. The electrolytes are regenerated by adding Na H S O in an acid solution whereby Cr is reduced to Cr . Variables x, y, z and v having the following values: x&equals;0 to 2, y&equals;0 to 2, z&equals;1 to 6, v&equals;2 to 6.

Process for regeneration of electrolytes from pickle liquor, in particular of NA2S04 from pickle liquor for stainless steel

A process and apparatus for pickling the surface of stainless steel strip feeds the stainless steel strip through a plurality of pickling tanks containing a hydrochloric acid pickling acid. The pickling acid bath is maintained at a temperature of at least about 40&deg; C. An oxidizing agent is added to the acid solution in an amount to maintain at least about one third and preferably at least about half of the soluble iron in the form of ferric chloride based on the total amount of iron in the acid solution.
