An MRI system for imaging one or more subjects is provided. The MRI system includes a magnet assembly and an MRI controller. The magnet assembly includes an RF coil for transmitting a first set of RF pulses into the one or more subjects at an initial Larmor frequency. The MRI controller is configured to electronically communicate with the RF coil and to adjust a resonant frequency of the RF coil such that the RF coil transmits a second set of RF pulses into the one or more subjects at one or more subsequent Larmor frequencies that are different from the initial Larmor frequency.

System and method for magnetic resonance imaging one or more subjects

A RF conductive member for a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) resonator includes an opening, a butterfly pickup loop, and a sensor cable. The RF conductive member has a length, a width, and a depth, and is configured to conduct a RF conductive member current. The opening passes through the depth of the RF conductive member and is disposed along the length of the RF conductive member. The butterfly pickup loop is disposed within the opening and configured to detect the RF conductive member current. The butterfly pickup loop includes a first loop and a second loop. The second loop is proximate the first loop and co-planar with the first loop. The sensor cable extends from the butterfly pickup loop and is configured to communicably couple the butterfly pickup loop with at least one processing unit.

Systems and methods for damping cable common-mode energy in magnetic environments are provided. One system includes a damping arrangement having a transmission line within an electric (E) field environment and an energy damping device formed having a conductive plastic body and positioned adjacent a conductor of the transmission line. The energy damping device is configured to dampen common-mode energy induced within the transmission line by the E field environment.

An imaging apparatus that incorporates an RF coil assembly and RF shield as part of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system is disclosed. The imaging apparatus includes an MRI system having a plurality of gradient coils, an RF coil former having inner and outer surfaces, an RF shield positioned on the outer surface of the RF coil former so as to be formed about the RF coil former, and an RF coil positioned on the inner surface of the RF coil former, with the RF coil coupled to a pulse generator to emit an RF pulse sequence and receive resulting MR signals from a subject of interest. The RF coil former comprises a generally cylindrical member having an indented portion indented in a radial direction inwardly from the outer surface, with the RF shield conforming to the RF coil former so as to also have an indented portion.

An imaging apparatus comprises an RF coil former comprising an inner surface and an outer surface and a composite RF shield positioned adjacently to the outer surface of the RF coil former so as to be formed about the RF coil former. The MRI system also comprises an RF coil positioned on the inner surface of the RF coil former. The RF coil former comprises a generally cylindrical member having an indented portion indented in a radial direction inwardly from the outer surface, and the composite RF shield comprises a first shield material positioned about the outer surface of the RF coil former, a second shield material position about the indented portion of the RF coil former, and a conformal shield material positioned about the RF coil former that electrically couples the first shield material to the second shield material.

An apparatus includes a first RF coil integrated into a first printed circuit board (PCB) and a second RF coil integrated into the first PCB. The apparatus also includes a tuning member positioned adjacently to the first PCB and inductively coupled to the first and second RF coils, the tuning member configured to minimize a mutual inductance formed between the first and second RF coils via modification of a coupling constant between the first and second RF coils.

Apparatus and method for decoupling MR coils

A radio frequency (RF) coil for a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system includes a first end ring section containing a plurality of openings and a second end ring section containing a plurality of openings. A plurality of rungs is disposed between the first end ring section and the second end ring section. Each rung has a first end connected to the first end ring section and a second end connected to the second end ring section. Each rung can also include a plurality of openings. The openings in the end rings and rungs reduces eddy currents and improves RF performance of the RF coil.

RF coil and apparatus to reduce acoustic noise in an MRI system

A RF transmit coil decoupling circuit in a parallel drive configuration comprises a power amplifier and an output matching network to shim the Bfield in response to inhomogeneities therein. The separate coil segments in a transmit array are effectively decoupled from each other despite inherent mutual inductance between coil segments by the decoupling circuit. The output matching network forms a high impedance block seen by the coil elements, while it provides a load line impedance at the output of the power amplifier. The transmission line transformer in the output matching network suppresses higher order harmonics for clearer RF wave forms. It also dampen the Q factor of the output matching network allowing stable operation with a series tuned coil element.

A method and apparatus for acquiring high resolution MR images of a carotid artery. A six-channel RF coil array has three RF coils placed in an overlapping pattern and positioned adjacent to a first region-of-interest (ROI) of an imaging patient. An RF coil assembly is presented that incorporates balun networks to eliminate standing waves from cables used to apply a voltage to multiple drive ports of the coil. The inequality of the efficiency of the drive ports is reduced such that a substantially circular polarization in the volume of the coil is maintained. The present invention reduces asymmetrical loading by a patient as a result of patient asymmetry and patient contact with the opposite end-ring of the coil that normally negatively affects circular polarization and conventional coil configurations.
