A disposable for use in blood treatment including a blood treatment unit and two membrane pumps connected in parallel on one side of the blood treatment unit. The disposable is operable in a single-needle mode, in which the pumps generate a pulsatile flow of blood through the blood treatment unit, and in a double-needle mode, in which the pumps generate an essentially continuous flow of blood through the blood treatment unit. The pumps connect to a supply of treatment fluid such that alternating flows of treatment fluid causes the pumps to generate the desired flows of blood in the single-needle and double-needle modes. The treatment fluid may be used as motive fluid for displacing the blood in the membrane pumps and/or as control fluid for controlling opening and/or closing of upstream and downstream commutation valves in the membrane pumps.

Disposables for blood treatment, and methods of operating the same

A method for exchanging heat between a primary fluid (W) and a secondary fluid (X) and a heat exchanger for heat exchange as well as an arrangement and a kit comprising a heat exchanger. The heat exchanger comprises a first and a second fluid circuit extending through the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger further comprises a stack of fluid plates and a membrane arranged between each of the fluid plates where one interspace is formed between each fluid plate and membrane. The first and the second fluid circuit are each constituted by a passage extending through the fluid plates and membranes and along the fluid plates and membranes in at least two interspaces. A primary fluid (W) is passed through the first fluid circuit and a secondary fluid (X) is passed through the second fluid circuit such that the primary fluid (W) is passed along one side of a membrane and simultaneously the secondary fluid (X) is passed along the other side of the membrane. Heat is thus exchanged between the primary fluid (W) and the secondary fluid (X) over the membrane.

The invention relates to a multi-ports extracorporeal medical device () having a selector body () which can be linearly displaced within the housing () in order to create different flow paths and connection among the ports. The device can for instance be used for reversing the flow in an extracorporeal blood circuit.

Flow reversing device and fluid treatment apparatus

A connector clip for medical sensors, including a first main body having two main tip contacts in electrical contact with electrical wires connectable to an instrument and a second main body mounted on the first main body and movable with respect to the first main body between an open position and a closed position. Two auxiliary tip contacts and an electric/electronic circuit provided with two connecting leads each electrically connected to one of the two auxiliary tip contacts are positioned in first or second main body. When a disposable sensor tab is correctly located and clamped each of two contacts is in contact with one of the main tip contacts and one of the auxiliary tip contacts and the electric circuit is connected in parallel with an electrical circuit defined by the sensor.

A proposed blood treatment apparatus includes: a blood treatment unit, at least one fluid pump and at least one blood pump. The blood treatment unit is configured to receive untreated blood and fresh blood treatment fluid, and emit treated blood and used blood treatment fluid. The fluid pumps are configured to pass blood treatment fluid through the blood treatment unit. The blood pumps are configured to extract untreated blood from a blood source, pass extracted blood through the blood treatment unit and deliver treated blood to a target vessel. Additionally, at least one of the fluid pumps is configured to control the operation of at least one blood pump via the blood treatment fluid. Moreover, at least one of the blood pumps is integrated into a joint apparatus element, which includes the blood treatment unit. Thus, this blood pump and the unit may be mounted as well as be discarded jointly.

An end-cap assembly for closing one end of a housing of a filter comprises an end-cap having an end wall; an inlet port extending through the end wall for connection to a first end of a pump hose of a peristaltic pump; and a first holder for securing a second end of the pump hose. The inlet port and the first holder are arranged relative to each other so that the pump hose forms a loop when the first end of the pump hose is connected to the inlet port and the second end of the pump hose is secured by the holder.

A method for exchanging heat between an effluent fluid and a treatment fluid and a heat exchanger for heat exchange as well as an arrangement and a kit comprising a heat exchanger. The heat exchanger comprises a first and a second fluid circuit extending through the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger further comprises a stack of fluid plates and a membrane arranged between each of the fluid plates where one interspace is formed between each fluid plate and membrane. The first and the second fluid circuit is each constituted by a passage extending through the fluid plates and membranes and along the fluid plates and membranes in at least two interspaces. According to the method for heat exchanging an effluent fluid is passed through the first fluid circuit and a treatment fluid is passed through the second fluid circuit such that the effluent fluid is passed along one side of a membrane and simultaneously the treatment fluid is passed along the other side of the membrane. Heat is thus exchanged between the effluent fluid and the treatment fluid over the membrane.

An integrated blood treatment module comprises a blood treatment device () having a housing () and a first end-cap () and a second end-cap () closing both ends of the housing (). A pump hose () for a peristaltic pump has a first end () that is secured to the housing () and a second end () that is connected to a blood inlet port () of the first end-cap () so as to form a loop. A degassing device () is connected to the second end-cap (). The degassing device (), which, in use, is full of liquid, comprises a hydrophobic membrane through which bubbles and micro-bubbles escape the degassing device.

Integrated blood treatment module

A pressure sensing device adapted for having a liquid flowing there through and for sensing the pressure of said liquid. The device has a casing being fluid-tightly divided into a first and a second chamber by a flexible, impermeable wall. The first chamber has a first opening for the liquid, said opening being placed at the lower part of the chamber, and a second opening for the liquid, said opening being placed at the top of the first chamber. The second chamber has a measuring port, which is connectable to a pressure transducer for bringing the second chamber into gas-tight communication with the pressure transducer. The device has a first orifice to permit the liquid to flow into and out of the device, the orifice being placed at the upper part of the device at a higher level than the second opening. A first channel is connecting the first orifice with the first opening. A second orifice permits the liquid to flow out of and into the device and is placed at the lower part of the device at a lower level than the first opening. A second channel connects the second opening with the second orifice.

Pressure sensing device and use of the same in a connecting structure

A switch valve for use in an extracorporeal blood flow circuit comprises a valve housing having a chamber, four openings communicating with the chamber, and a valve member located in the valve chamber. A first opening is to be connected to a patient via an arterial cannula, a second opening is to be connected to a patient via an venous cannula, a third opening is to be connected to a first inlet/outlet of a blood treatment device, and a fourth opening is to be connected to a second inlet/outlet of a blood treatment device. The valve member is movable within the valve housing to fluidly connect the first opening to either the third or the fourth opening and to fluidly connect the second opening to either the third or the fourth opening. The width of the valve member is smaller than a peripheral dimension of the openings.

The invention refers to a medical system comprising a first subsystem with a first connection portion (), and a second subsystem with a second connection portion (). The invention also refers to a device and a method for connecting the subsystems to each other. One of the subsystems contains a fluid. The connecting device is adapted to connect the subsystems to each other to permit transport of the fluid from one of the subsystems to the other subsystem. The device comprises a container () enclosing an inner space. A substantially sterile atmosphere is provided in the inner space. The container receives the first connection portion and the second connection portion in the inner space. A mechanism is provided for connecting, from outside the container, the first connection portion and the second connection portion to each other in the inner space.

Connecting device, a medical system, and a method of connecting medical subsystems

A switch valve for use in an extracorporeal blood flow circuit comprises a valve housing having a chamber, four openings communicating with the chamber, and a valve member located in the valve chamber. A first opening is to be connected to a patient via an arterial cannula, a second opening is to be connected to a patient via an venous cannula, a third opening is to be connected to a first inlet/oulet of a blood treatment device, and a fourth opening is to be connected to a second inlet/outlet of a blood treatment device. The valve member is movable within the valve housing to fluidly connect the first opening to either the third or the fourth opening and to fluidly connect the second opening to either the third or the fourth opening. The width of the valve member is smaller than a peripheral dimension of the openings.
