A weaving machine and a weaving method for direct three-dimensional weaving, wherein the weft thread () is imparted with its desired two-dimensional course already when the weft thread is being input. The position of the warp threads () is adapted to the weft thread path (). The weft thread path () is defined by the lamellae () that extend into the shed () in between the warp threads (). The lamellae () are arranged on a common bar () so that they can be individually adjusted, thus enabling the adjustment of the desired weft thread path () by positioning the lamellae (). The lamellae () and the bar (), at the same time, form the reed () that is used for casting on the weft thread () at the fabric edge ().

Weaving machine and method for three-dimensional weaving

An insertion arrangement () is provided to make it easier for an operator to insert several needles () clamped in a multiple clamping chuck (), even in the case of certain positional deviations, simultaneously in the associate bores () of a needle board (). The insertion arrangement () comprises a guide section () with many parallel grooves () that are arranged at the distance of the bores (), and that, respectively, can accommodate the tip () of a needle () and can guide said tip to the associate bore (). In so doing, the grooves () help align the individual needles () with respect to the bores () in that the grooves correct potential positional deviations by slightly bending the needles (). The insertion arrangement () is mounted to an automatic loading machine () and can be adjusted and locked relative to a needle board () accommodated in the automatic loading machine.

A knitting needle designed specifically for achieving particularly fine divisions, or another knitting tool (), has a narrower working section () and a wider support section (), whereby the support section () is provided with a positioning means (), for example, having the form of a slit () or having the form of a rib (). The knitting tool () is associated with a fixing means () in the form of a projection () or a groove () on the side of the bar (). Due to this measure, the support sections () of the knitting tools () may be arranged&#x2014;in close proximity to each other, in contact with or at a minimal distance from each other&#x2014;on the bar (), so that a maximum cross-section is available for configuring the support section (). This provides strong stability for the knitting tools ()&#x2014;even in cases of extremely fine divisions&#x2014;and, at the same time, provides precise alignment and avoids division errors.

A knitting machine needle () that is designed as a meander needle in accordance with the invention comprises at least one meander curve () that is provided with a meander curve slit () having the shape of a vertical slit that is parallel to the tongue slit. It is delimited by two side walls () that are preferably aligned parallel to each other and circumscribe an open intermediate space.

A shaft rod () having a heald mounting rail () glued to the rod body () using a space-filling adhesive () provided in an accommodation space () on the mounting rail () or the rod body () and having a greater volume than a holding section () formed on the rod body () or the mounting rail (). Preferably, the holding section () and the accommodation space () are configured such that the two parts can only be inserted into each other with a pivoting movement. To achieve this, the holding section () preferably has a part () extending transverse to the mouth () of the accommodation space (), and being wider than the mouth (), thus extending behind a wall section or part () of the accommodation space (). Preferably, the accommodation space () and the holding section () are configured as hook profiles that engage each other.

A knitting tool for a bar () of a knitter comprises a shaft (), which is provided with a plastic body () at least on one side, which extends beyond the side surface () of the shaft. Said plastic body () is in contact with the side surface of the adjacent knitting tool. Thus, both knitting tools concerned are supported at one another.

The cutting needle () according to the invention is, for example, a latch needle and has a knife element () secured to the shank (). The knife element () defines a cutting edge () which projects obliquely upward from the shank. The knife element () is arranged externally of the range of motion of the latch () and cuts open a loop situated on the shank when it is overdriven outward. The knife element () is made, for example, of a suitable spring steel and is held unremovably on the shank ().

The inventive knitting tools, in particular knitting needles (), have a body () which, for alignment, has on its narrow side projections () which have precisely machined abutment surfaces () on their end faces. The abutment surfaces (), can be produced, for example, during a suitable stage of the manufacturing process. One of the projections () or an additional projection () can be provided with abutment surfaces () which are used for longitudinal positioning of the knitting tool. Corresponding grooves () in the needle bar () are assigned to the projections ().

The heddle according to the invention, provided in particular for band-shaped warp threads, comprises two bands () that extend in vertical direction during use, are arranged at a distance parallel to each other and hold two thread support elements () disposed between them. The thread support elements () together with the respective flat segments of the bands () between them jointly form a flat thread eyelet () that is oriented transverse to the warp thread and the longitudinal direction () of the heddle. The bands () preferably extend with undiminished width up to the heddle support rails () and are provided with end eyelets () for positioning them on the support rails.

A take-off comb, in particular for a flat-bed knitting machine or a loop-forming machine, comprising a number of take-off elements that are held in a bed (), with the bed consisting exclusively of bent sheet metal parts. The take-off elements () may comprise closing elements () that can be shifted by a closer ledge (). The closer ledge () and, optionally, a slider () assigned to the ledge, are preferably also bent sheet metal parts. Consequently, the thusly configured take-off comb () can be manufactured in a cost-effective and precise manner.

A system component () for a knitting system is composed of a body () with butt (), which projects outward from the narrow side () of the body (). According to a first advantageous embodiment of the invention, the butt () is positioned inclined or at an angle to the body (). A corresponding bending line extends in longitudinal or movement direction of the body (). The angle (&#x3b1;) is thus defined in an imaginary plane (E) that intersects the body () in transverse direction. As a result of this measure, the butt () can also be adjusted relatively precisely at a right angle to the cam movement if the system component () along with it the body () is arranged somewhat inclined inside a corresponding guide slot () of a bed (), wherein the angle &#x3b1; then compensates for the tilting. A line-type contact between the butt () and the guide track () is achieved, which reduces wear. Supplementary or alternatively thereto, the butt () is provided with thickened areas () along its edges (), which also function to reduce wear.

A novel latch needle has a sawslot () which is provided with facets or surfaces () both at its frontal and its rearward end surfaces (). The surfaces () are preferably parallel to one another and are oriented perpendicularly to the direction of length (L) of the shank. By virtue of this arrangement the surfaces are so oriented that the latch (), as it opens or closes, pushes any dirt past the respective surfaces through the sawslot () and thus an accumulation and compacting of dirt cushions on the noted surfaces is avoided. Generally stated, the sawslot (), particularly in the region of its end surfaces () is thus void of any surface regions which represent an obstacle to the opening or closing latch ().

For keeping knitting tools () in readiness and mounting them on knitting machines or other loop-forming machines, a tool holder () is provided, which is formed by or contains a transport rail (). The transport rail () has two clamping legs (), which are parallel to one another and are provided with regularly distributed slots (). The slots firmly clamp inserted knitting tools by frictional engagement. With the knitting tools (), the transport rail () forms a manipulable unit, in which when it is freely handled, the knitting tools () do not fall out of the transport rail (). The pitch of the transport rail preferably matches the pitch of a needle bed of a machine to be equipped. The equipping of the machine is done by placing the transport rail on the needle bed or attaching it to it and pressing the knitting tools away, in a direction approximately perpendicular to the back portion () of the transport rail (), out of their frictionally engaged mounting into their needle channel. Multi-part knitting tools are thus securely held together in every stage.

A latch needle () is provided with a latch (), which has a clearing profile () on its latch shank end (). The clearing profile () serves to keep the sawslot () free of dirt. To that end, it has at least one special clearing face ().

A plurality of machine elements, such as needles (), are combined into a shipping unit () by material connections, such as an adhesive bond, and this shipping unit can be easily transported and stored. The machine elements can easily be separated by hand or with simple tools and inserted individually, for instance into the needle tracks of a knitting machine.
