The demulsifying cleaning of metallic surfaces which may be contaminated with oil(s) with at least one further nonpolar organic compound, with fat(s), with soap(s), with particulate dirt or with at least one anionic organic compound using an aqueous, alkaline, surfactant-containing bath solutions.

Process for the demulsifying cleaning of metallic surfaces

The invention relates to an aqueous alkaline cleaning composition for cleaning metal surfaces, containing at least one non-ionic surfactant having demulsifying action and based on ethoxylated alkyl alcohols having one or two alkyl groups, each comprising an average of 7.5 to 16.5 carbon atoms, and an average of 5.5 to 18.5 EO groups per alkyl group, and comprising an end group closure or two end group closures, of which at least one end group closure is an isopropyl, isobutyl, tertiary butyl and/or benzyl group, wherein the surfactant is not propoxylated.

The inventive aqueous pickling agent on the basis of sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid and hydrogen fluoride for stainless steels, which pickling agent is free of wetting and emulsifying agents, contains (each as 100 wt-% substance) An iron(III) compound is not supplied to said pickling agent. Merely in the starting phase, an oxidizing agent can be supplied, which oxidizes iron(II) to form iron(III). As acid-soluble aromatic nitro compound m-nitrobenzene sulfonate and/or 3-nitrophthalate are particularly advantageous. The inventive pickling agent can be used as bath pickle and &#x2014;when adding 2.5 to 5.5 wt-% magnesium and/or magnesium compound (calculated as Mg)&#x2014;also as spraying pickle or brush pickle.
