The present invention relates to a hydrophobic additive for use with fabric, fiber, and film. One aspect of the present invention comprises a master batch composition for use in preparing a non-woven fabric in order to increase the hydrophobicity of the non-woven fabric. In one embodiment, the master batch composition includes a polymer and a lipid ester. The lipid ester comprises 10 wt. % to 40 wt. % of the master batch. The fabric, when including the master batch composition, has a contact angle ranging from 100&#xb0; to 125&#xb0; when measured according to test method ASTM D2578.

The present invention relates to a hydrophobic additive for use with fabric, fiber, and film. One aspect of the present invention comprises a master batch composition for use in preparing a non-woven fabric in order to increase the hydrophobicity of the non-woven fabric. In one embodiment, the master batch composition includes a polymer and a lipid ester. The lipid ester comprises from 10 wt. % to 40 wt. % of the master batch. The fabric, when including the master batch composition, has a contact angle ranging from 100&#xb0; to 125&#xb0; when measured according to test method ASTM D2578.

The invention is directed to wettable fibers or filament having a thermoplastic polymer, a first wetting agent, and a second wetting agent.

Wettable polymer fibers, compositions for preparaing same and articles

Wettable fibers or filaments are prepared from a composition having a polymer which has a wetting agent incorporated therein. The polymer is selected from the group consisting of olefin polymers, polyesters and polyamides. The wetting agent consists essentially of a glyceride selected from the group consisting of a mono-glyceride, a combination of mono-glycerides and a mixed glyceride having a mono glyceride content of at least 85 percent by weight. The fatty ester group or groups in the glyceride each have from about 12 to about 22 carbon atoms. The olefin polymer is preferably polypropylene, LLDPE, LDPE and HDPE, more preferably polypropylene. The polyamide is preferably a nylon 6 and nylon 6,6. The polyester is preferably a polyethylene terephthalate and a polybutylene terephthalate.

Wettable polymer fibers

Thermoplastic compositions are provided which have electrostatic dissipative properties. The thermoplastic composition is prepared by combining at least the following initial ingredients: (i) a thermoplastic polyurethane, which is prepared by reacting a polyalkylene glycol, a diisocyanate and a chain extender having at least two hydroxyl groups, (ii) a thermoplastic polyester, wherein the polyester is a polylactone, and (iii) a quaternary ammonium compound. The composition may additionally include an organic polymer to which is imbued electrostatic dissipative properties as a result of incorporating the three initial ingredients.

Electrostatic dissipative composition

There is disclosed a degradable polymeric composition wherein the degradation is initiated by ultraviolet radiation and once initiated the degradation process persists after removal from exposure to ultraviolet radiation and also under anaerobic conditions. The composition comprises an organic polymeric material having dispersed therein a degradation-controlling amount of an additive system consisting essentially of at least one alkoxylated ethylenically unsaturated compound as photo-sensitizer/readily auto-oxidizable additive and, optionally, at least one other readily auto-oxidizable organic substance.

Degradable polymeric compositions

There is disclosed a degradable polymeric composition wherein the degradation is initiated by ultraviolet radiation and once initiated the degradation process persists after removal from exposure to ultraviolet radiation and also under anaerobic conditions. The composition comprises an organic polymeric material having dispersed therein a degradation-controlling amount of an additive system consisting essentially of at least one alkoxylated ethylenically saturated compound as photo-sensitizer/readily auto-oxidizable additive and, optionally, at least one other readily auto-oxidizable organic substance.
