A mount () for a metal halide arc discharge lamp has a flare () including a barrel portion and a frame () comprises a clip () attached to the barrel portion (). A lamp capsule may be formed with substantially parallelepipedial ends including alignments. A metal strap may surround one end, between the alignments, with first and second oppositely disposed affixation areas of extensions. A glass stem has tubular first portion with outside diameter D. A C-shaped clip is mounted upon the tubular first portion. The clip has height H and inside diameter D1 smaller than the outside diameter D. The clip frictionally engages the tubular first portion. A first frame member has a proximal terminus affixed to the clop and a second frame member has a proximal terminus affixed to the clip opposite the first frame member. The first frame member has a distal terminus affixed to the one affixation area and second frame member has a distal terminus affixed to the other affixation area. The first and second frame members and the metal strap provide the support for the capsule.

A mounting member ('&#x2033;) for an arc tube/shroud combination comprises an annulus (). The annulus () has at least one mounting tab () depending from an outer edge thereof and two spaced apart arc tube-pinch seal-engaging ribs () spanning the diameter of the annulus for frictionally engaging the pinch seals. Holding tabs () depending from the annulus mount the annulus to a shroud. In a preferred embodiment the ribs () have upstanding projections () that engage the pinch seals and provide the friction fit necessary for holding the pinch seals.

The apertures () in the two spring clips frictionally engage one of the ends () of the light source (). Each of the spring clips () has a U-shaped projection () at and end () of the base (). The U-shaped projection comprises first and second upstanding walls () joined by a first lip () that extends in a second plane and is fitted over the wall of the shroud (). One of the upstanding walls of the U-shaped projection, for example, wall (), is formed to provide spring tension for grasping the shroud wall.

Frame mount for high intensity discharge lamp

A spring clip for assembling a light source to a shroud comprises a base extending in a first plane and having an aperture centrally located therein. Aperture is substantially circular and is provided with cutouts to provide flexibility. Upstanding walls , are provide, one at each end of the base . A first lip extends orthogonally away from the wall in a second plane and a second lip extends orthogonally away from the wall , also in the second plane. The second plane is substantially parallel to the first plane but spaced therefrom. Flags are formed, respectively, with the lips , the flags extending away from the lips in a plane transverse to the first and second planes. Extended ends of a light source are accommodated into the apertures and the lips and walls of the clips frictionally engage an interior surface of a shroud.
