A method and apparatus for producing an air textured yarn is disclosed, and wherein a partially oriented and fully drawn yarn is withdrawn from a supply package, wrapped about a heated godet, and then directly advanced into an air texturing nozzle. In the nozzle, a jet of unheated air serves to impart loops, curls, bows and the like to the advancing yarn. The yarn is advanced from the heated godet to the air jet nozzle under a relatively low tension so as to permit the heated yarn to shrink and thereby reduce the residual shrinkage. The jet of unheated air in the air jet nozzle also cools the yarn and thus the formation of the loops, etc. occurs only after shrinkage has ceased.

Method and apparatus for producing an air textured yarn

A method and apparatus for producing an air textured yarn is disclosed, and wherein a partially oriented yarn is withdrawn from a supply package, drawn, and then directly advanced into an air texturing nozzle, wherein a jet of unheated air serves to impart loops, curls, bows and the like to the advancing yarn. The drawing godet of the drawing system is heated so as to heat the advancing yarn, and the yarn is then advanced from the heated godet to the air jet nozzle under a relatively low tension so as to permit the heated yarn to shrink and thereby reduce the residual shrinkage. The jet is unheated air in the air jet nozzle also cools the yarn ahnd thus the formation of the loops, etc. occurs only after shrinkage has ceased.

Method of producing an air textured yarn

A method and apparatus for processing a synthetic continuous filament textured yarn is disclosed, and wherein the yarn is wetted prior to entering the texturizing nozzle. To effect a uniform and controllable wetting, the yarn is passed over a guide surface so that the filaments are laterally spread apart, and a jet of water is directed onto the advancing yarn from a direction opposing the guide surface.

Method and apparatus for processing a textured yarn

A method and apparatus is disclosed for producing a synthetic multifilament yarn having enhanced bulk and hand characteristics, and which is capable of high production rates. Specifically, the invention involves advancing each of at least two continuous multifilament yarn components along respective paths of travel, with a first component being advanced at a higher speed than that of a second component. Also, the second slower yarn component is guided upwardly through a liquid bath to moisten the same, while the first faster yarn component is advanced along an essentially linear path of travel and free of contact with the liquid bath, so that the degree of tension in the faster yarn component is minimized upstream of the air jet nozzle, to thereby permit full development of the loops, coils, bows or the like in the filaments thereof in the air jet nozzle. In the illustrated embodiment, the faster yarn component is advanced along a path of travel which extends through a vertical tube mounted in the liquid bath, and so that it is not wetted.

Method and apparatus for producing an air texturized yarn

In an air jet texturing machine or the like for bulking a multifilament yarn with means to conduct the bulked yarn through a heating tube under relatively low tension at high speed, said tube having a nominal inner diameter which is more than 10 times the diameter of the bulked yarn and a length of more than 1 meter, the improvement wherein the yarn tube has at least one yarn encircling beaded segment with a radially inwardly protruding edge which reduces the inner diameter of the tube by at least 5% up to 50% of said nominal diameter.

Texturing machine

A method and apparatus is provided for producing a synthetic multifilament yarn having the appearance, bulk and hand characteristics normally associated with spun yarns of staple fibers. The yarn is air jet textured to form loops, coils, bows and the like in the filaments, and at least some of the projecting loops, coils, and bows are enlarged or parted by advancing and looping the yarn around one or more rotating rollers, such that the portion of the yarn running onto the roller overlaps and contacts the portion of the yarn leaving the roller and thereby clampingly engages the projecting loops, coils, bows and the like of the leaving yarn portion. The efficiency of the process may be controlled by varying the number of rollers, as well as the yarn tension during the parting operation.

Method and apparatus for producing synthetic multifilament yarn

Process and apparatus for producing a crimped continuous multifilament yarn by the sequential steps of air-jet texturizing to form multiple random filamentary loops, immediately pulling out metastable loops formed in the yarn without heating and without stretching or deforming the yarn filaments, next shrinking and heat setting the yarn at a temperature of about 150.degree.-245.degree. C., and then winding the yarn onto a spool at a predetermined yarn tension. The resulting spooled texturized yarn has valuable properties and characteristics in subsequent processing and textile operations.

Process for the production of a crimped continuous multifilament yarn

A method and apparatus is provided for producing a synthetic multifilament yarn having appearance, bulk and hand characteristics of conventional spun yarns of staple fibers while retaining strength characteristics of continuous filament yarns. The multifilament yarn is air jet textured to form loops, bows, coils and the like in at least the surface filaments thereof and at least some of these loops, bows, coils and the like only in the surface filaments are parted while the interior or core filaments remain substantially intact to form a yarn having free filament or fiber ends projecting from a substantially continuous filament core. The interior or core filaments are shielded or protected from being parted by false twisting the yarn (without heat setting the twist therein) to provide a substantially closed form with the interior or core filaments surrounded by the surface filaments and by parting the surface filaments while the yarn has twist therein. Also, other steps are taken and means are provided for limiting the filament parting action solely to the surface filaments. Finally, the yarn is heat set after the filaments are parted and after the twist is removed to fix the characteristics imparted in the previous processing steps therein.
