A diesel fuel based on ethanol is described, which comprises about 60 to about 90% (v/v) ethanol, up to about 20% (v/v) of a linear dialkyl ether with a chain length of about 10 to about 40 as well as mixtures thereof, and 0 to about 30% (v/v) combustion accelerator.

A fuel for compression-ignition engines is described, which contains mono oxymethylene dimethyl ether and has a cetane number of &#x2267;51. This fuel for compression-ignition engines advantageously contains oxygenates of the n-polyoxaalkane type and/or di-tert-butyl peroxide. Up to about 20% by weight of the mono oxymethylene dimethyl ether can be replaced by dimethyl ether.

The invention relates to a self-igniting internal combustion engine () with ether fumigation of the combustion air for vehicles, wherein to provide for ether fumigation, a feed means () is provided for an alkanol fuel in the flow direction, an exhaust gas heat exchanger () is provided for cooling a portion of the exhaust gas arising from the firing of the internal combustion engine () and for vaporizing the alkanol fuel fed while at the same time absorbing the thermal energy to be dissipated during cooling of the exhaust gas, and a catalyst () is provided for dehydrating the evaporated alkanol fuel to form ether, and wherein the feed means (), the exhaust gas heat exchanger () and the catalyst () are connected to the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine () and adapted in such a way that a portion of the fuel required to fire the internal combustion engine () can be fed to the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine () by way of the ether fumigation of the combustion air while mixing in the exhaust gas cooled in the exhaust gas heat exchanger (). The invention further relates to a method for ether fumigation of the combustion air in a self-igniting internal combustion engine for vehicles.

Self-igniting internal combustion engine with ether fumigation of the combustion air for vehicles and a method for ether fumigation of the combustion air in a self-igniting internal combustion engine for vehicles

The invention relates to the use of aqueous guanidinium formiate solutions, optionally combined with urea and/or ammonia and/or ammonium salts, for the selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides using ammonia in exhaust gases of vehicles. The inventive guanidinium formiate solutions enable a reduction of the nitrogen oxides by approximately 90%. Furthermore, said guanidinium formiate solutions can enable an increase in the ammonia forming potential from 0.2 kg, corresponding to prior art, up to 0.4 kg ammonia per liter of guanidinium formiate, along with freezing resistance (freezing point below &#x2212;25&#xb0; C.). The risk of corrosion of the inventive guanidinium formiate solutions is also significantly reduced compared to that of solutions containing ammonium formiate.

Use of aqueous guanidinium formate solutions for the selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides in exhaust gases of vehicles

The use of polyoxymethylene di(alkyl polyglycol) ethers of the general formula RO(CHCHO)(CHO)(CHCHO)R is described, wherein R is an alkyl radical, n is &#x2266;3 and m is &#x2266;6, as additives to diesel fuels to reduce the particulate emission in self-ignition engines.

Use of polyoxymethylene di (alkyl polyglycol) ethers as additives to diesel fuels to reduce the particulate emission in self-ignition engines

Exhaust gas aftertreatment system for internal combustion engines operated with a lean mixture, wherein nitrogen oxides are reduced by an SCR catalyst, and particulates are removed by a particle separator or filter. A thermolysis catalyst is located near the engine in the exhaust gas split stream downstream of the supply point of the reducing agent. At temperatures above 135&#xb0; C., this thermolysis catalyst vaporizes the water component of the aqueous urea solution. It contains a catalyst material that is thermally stable at exhaust gas temperatures occurring near the engine and preferentially reacts with the urea to form isocyanic acid. A hydrolysis catalyst is located in the exhaust gas stream downstream of the return of the split stream into the main stream of exhaust gas. The hydrolysis catalyst converts the isocyanic acid formed during thermolysis to ammonia and carbon dioxide using water vapor formed in the thermolysis catalyst.

Exhaust gas aftertreatment system

The invention relates to a method for the selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides using ammonia in exhaust gases of vehicles, whereby solutions of guanidine salts with an ammonia forming potential of between 40 and 850 g/kg, optionally in combination with urea and/or ammonia and/or ammonium salts, are catalytically decomposed in the presence of catalytically active, non-oxidation-active coatings of oxides selected from the group containing titanium dioxide, aluminum oxide, silicon dioxide or the mixtures thereof, and hydrothermally stable zeolites which are fully or partially metal-exchanged. The guanidine salts according to the invention enable a reduction of the nitrogen oxides by approximately 90%. Furthermore, said guanidine salts can enable an increase in the ammonia forming potential from 0.2 kg, corresponding to prior art, up to 0.4 kg ammonia per litre of guanidine salt, along with freezing resistance (freezing point below &#x2212;25&#xb0; C.). The risk of corrosion of the guanidine salt solutions used according to the invention is also significantly reduced compared to that of solutions containing ammonium formiate.

Method for the selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides in exhaust gases of vehicles

A method for reducing the particle and nitrogen oxide proportion in an exhaust gas flow of an internal combustion engine includes supplying a reducing agent to the exhaust gas flow, subjecting the exhaust gas flow containing the reducing agent to particle filtering, and then carrying out a selective catalytic reduction of at least a portion of the nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas flow. The method and an exhaust gas treatment unit make it possible to simultaneously reduce the proportion of particles and nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas. Ammonia, in particular, is used as the reducing agent. Regeneration of the particle filter is promoted by leading an ammonia-containing flow of gas through the particle filter. The method and device make it possible to consume less fuel with the same reaction rate and, at the same time to reduce available installation space, in comparison with existing corresponding prior art systems.

Method for reducing a particle and nitrogen oxide proportion in an exhaust gas flow of an internal combustion engine and corresponding exhaust gas treatment unit

A device for producing ammonia from urea pellets includes a pellet dispensing device, a pellet accelerator, a pellet shooting channel, and an ammonia reactor having a chamber or zone for shooting in urea pellets and a pellet deflector arranged on an end of the shooting path. The device further includes a urea pellet evaporation device and a hydrolytic catalytic converter. The urea pellets are removed from the reservoir in a regulated number/quantity by a dispensing device and transported to the accelerating device, where the pellets are moved from the pellet shooting channel into the ammonia reactor, where they are broken down into small pieces by impacting a pellet deflector at the end of the shooting path. The pieces are converted into a gas mixture containing ammonia and isocyanic acid by means of a urea evaporation device. The isocyanic acid is subsequently converted into ammonia and carbon dioxide.

Device and method for producing ammonia from solid urea pellets

A combination exhaust gas post treatment/muffler device in the exhaust gas section of an internal combustion engine is provided. The exhaust gas post treatment within the muffler, which forms sulfuric acid, takes place in at least one exhaust gas post treatment/muffler module, and only that housing thereof through which flows exhaust gas that is to be cleaned is produced from ferritic or austenitic stainless steel, thus making it possible to produce the outer walls of the muffler, as well as any inner element thereof, such as a transverse wall, that is disposed externally of the exhaust gas post treatment/muffler module of unalloyed sheet steel that is coated with aluminum or some other material.

Combination exhaust gas post treatment/muffler device in the exhaust gas section of an internal combustion engine

A feed device for supplying solid urea granules into an ammonia generator arranged within or outside of an exhaust line for production of ammonia makes possible NOreduction with the catalytic purification of exhaust of an internal combustion engine, gas turbine, or a burner, whereby the solid urea granules are stored in a holding tank. No compressed air support for transporting and metering the urea granules is required and transporting and metering of the urea granules adapted to the ammonia specifications is possible. The feed device has a housing with an inlet for supplying the urea granules and internally, a motor-driven, rotating disk with at least one spiral-shaped acceleration channel, as well as an outlet leading outward, to which a tube leading to the ammonia generator is connected.

Feed device for supplying solid urea granules into an ammonia generator arranged within or outside of an exhaust line

A combination exhaust gas post treatment/muffler device in the exhaust gas section of an internal combustion engine is provided. A special platinum-coated preliminary oxidation catalytic converter is combined with at least one particle separator, which is exactly coordinated therewith, in a muffler to achieve carbon particle separation rates of greater than 50%.

A method is provided for producing ammonia (NH) and introducing the produced ammonia (NH) into an exhaust gas stream as a reduction means for selectively catalytically reducing nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gas stream, which is an exhaust stream generated by the combustion process of a motor, a gas turbine, or a burner. The method comprises feeding dry urea from a supply container in a controlled amount to reactor and subjecting the dry urea in the reactor to a sufficiently rapid thermal treatment such that a gas mixture comprising the reaction products of ammonia (NH) and isocyanic acid (HCNO) is created. Also, the method comprises immediately catalytically treating the thus produced gas mixture in the presence of water such that the isocyanic acid (HCNO) resulting from the rapid thermal treatment is converted, via quantitative hydrolysis treatment, into ammonia (NH) and carbon dioxide (CO).
