The present invention discloses a new paradigm in Multimedia Services Creation Methodology, and new Service Creation and Service Execution Environments, based on this methodology. A service designer can access the Service Creation Environment via a Web based Graphical User Interface (GUI), to design new service in an automated way. The design process includes creation of the Service Logic Script (SLS), and associated databases that are used for storage of service and subscriber related data. The service developer (user) assembles Language Graphical Objects (LGO) into Service Logic Script. LGOs are part of a new graphical language that has been developed to meet multimedia service creation needs. They represent service control and call control primitive functions that have to be performed, in order to provide a multimedia service to service subscribers.

The presently disclosed architecture enables a service provider to support public voice VPN services over an IP VPN network. The architecture utilizes a customer VPN, a designated gateway for the customer VPN, an IP VPN transport network, and a Call Control Element/router Complex which uses IP technology to map between the IP VPN and the voice VPN. With such an arrangement, the customer VPN is extended to the gatekeeper of the Call Control Element/router Complex, thereby enabling the provision of voice VPN services over an IP network.

A method and apparatus for providing email notification for called and/or calling parties of a call placement are disclosed. The method enables a packet network service provider, e.g., a VoIP or SoIP service provider, to register customers for email notification service, to obtain the disposition of calls from Call Detail Records (CDRs), call control elements or application servers that have access to call signaling information in real time, to identify calls that resulted in ringing without an answer or busy disposition, and to determine whether or not the called and/or calling party subscribed to the email notification service. If the calling and/or called party subscribe to the notification service, the service provider sends an email notification to the calling and/or called party containing the caller and called party information, the time of the call, the disposition of the call and the like.

A telecommunications method and system for providing and monitoring multiple classes of service to users seeking dial-up access to a given resource. Incoming calls from two user groups, one group subscribing to a first service level and the other group subscribing to a second service level, are initially assigned to open circuits in a first shared dial hunt group. When all circuits are busy, only calls from users subscribing to the second service level are routed to open circuits in a second dedicated dial hunt group so that second level service subscribers will have fewer calls blocked than first level service subscribers. In an alternative implementation, calls from users subscribing to a first service level are routed only to open circuits in a first dial hunt group and calls from users subscribing to a second service level are routed initially to open circuits in a second dial hunt group. When all circuits in the second dial hunt group are busy, calls from second level service subscribers are routed to the first dial hunt group. Service levels are monitored by placing test calls and measuring the number of blocked calls. Hunt group capacities can then be adjusted accordingly.

Method and system for providing multiple classes of telephone access service

A method of changing the characteristics of telephone call data on an ATM network that is initially transmitted via a first SVC between a first ATM switch and a second ATM switch is described. The method includes the steps of sending a set-up message for a second SVC from the first ATM switch to the second ATM switch and sending a switch-over request message from the first ATM switch to the second ATM switch via the second SVC. The method further includes the steps of sending a switch-over acknowledge message from the second ATM switch to the first ATM switch via the second SVC and sending a switch-over begin message from the first ATM switch to the second ATM switch via the second SVC. The method further includes the steps of sending a switch-over confirm message from the second ATM switch to the first ATM switch via the second SVC and transmitting the telephone call data via the second SVC. The steps executed by the present invention insure that the switch-over from the first SVC to the second SVC is accomplished without interrupting service.
