A method and apparatus for cleaning squid bodies which have been separated from the heads and tentacles, employing upstream and downstream, partially overlapping, facially confronting, perforate conveyor belts, through the perforations in which a vacuum apparatus is employed to hold such bodies tightly against the belts. On the upstream belt, successive bodies are slit along one side to fillet them, thus to enable them to lay out flat on the belt, with mechanical and hydraulic scrubbing action then employed to clean one side of each body. Where the two belts overlap, a transfer action takes place, with the successive bodies there transferred to, and then held against, the other belt to expose the opposite sides of the bodies for mechanical and hydraulic scrubbing action.

Squid cleaning method and apparatus

A food packing machine employing a piston for compressing and preparing a cake of food for canning. The piston rides reciprocally in a carrier which is cam driven toward and away from a cake-forming cavity, wherein the piston acts against food particles. Operation of the carrier and piston, as the latter moves initially into the cavity's entrance, is characterized by nonyieldable biasing, or driving, of the piston into the cavity. Immediately thereafter, a spring which is interposed between the carrier and piston promotes continued, but now yieldable, drive of the piston into the cavity.

Food packing machinery with differential force-controlled packing action

A device for aid in inserting or removing a contact lens including an elongate, resilient, cylindrical tube having a contact lens holding cup formed at one end thereof communicating with the interior of the tube. A light transmitting closure member is press fit in the opposite end of the tube to provide an airtight closure at that end of the tube. Opposite sides of a resilient portion of the tube are manually flexible toward and away from each other to evacuate a portion of the tube and, upon release and with a contact lens seated on the lens holding cup, return to their original configuration to produce a subatmospheric pressure within the tube to hold the lens on the lens holding cup. An elongate, light transmitting, manually incompressible shaft extends longitudinally through the interior of the tube to prevent opposed sides of the tube from being squeezed completely together, thus to provide a light transmitting path between the closure at one end and the lens holding cup at the other end to aid in sighting through the device during operation.
