A grader blade has a steel body with a bottom edge incorporating a pair of tiered, elongated carbide inserts in a forward portion thereof. The carbide inserts, being arranged in a tiered contacting relationship, are disposed in a stepped recess formed in and along the forward portion of the bottom edge of the blade body and brazed to the blade body and to each other so as to project forwardly and downwardly from the recess. A front one of the tiered inserts is composed of a cemented carbide composition having a high cobalt content, for instance 20 percent by weight, adapting it for enhanced impact wear resistance, whereas a rear one of the tiered inserts is composed of a cemented carbide composition having a low cobalt content, for instance 11.5 percent by weight, adapting it for enhanced downpressure wear resistance.

A grader blade has a steel body with a bottom edge incorporating a substrate of air-hardened tool steel casting material assembling a preformed cemented carbide insert in tiered relationship with, and rearwardly of, a casted layer of carbide grit. The front casted carbide grit layer is formed in the casting operation and the rear preformed cemented carbide insert is arranged in the tiered contacting and attached relationship with the carbide grit layer as the latter is casted with the substrate of special steel casting that holds the insert and layer together. The steel body of the blade also includes a recess formed in and along the forward portion of the blade bottom edge into which the casted asembly is disposed and welded to the blade. The front casted layer of carbide grit is tougher than the rear preformed carbide insert making it better able to absorb impacts thereon, whereas the rear insert is composed of a cemented carbide composition having a low cobalt content, for instance ten percent by weight, adapting it for enhanced downpressure wear resistance.

This invention relates to a double composite structure comprising cemented carbides embedded in an austenitic stainless steel matrix forming a wear, impact, drill and corrosion resistant shape by powder metallurgy techniques. Molten metal is then cast around the composite structure forming the body of a tool, lock or parts which are particularly useful for earthmoving and security applications.

Casting having wear resistant compacts and method of manufacture

A rotary tool is disclosed which is adapted to be mounted on a machine having power drive means and movable over a field surface to produce furrows therein. The rotary tool comprises bit elements mounted in abutting relation from a peripheral surface of a disc and having compacts of hard wear resistant material which form the leading edge of the bit elements that are to engage the earth.

Furrowing tool

A tool for an earthworking machine in which the machine has a rotor with one or more support plates mounted in an axially distributed relation with each plate carrying one or more earthworking tools in circumferentially distributed relation. Each tool extends radially outwardly from the respective plate and at the outer end has an earthworking portion extending transversely to the plane in which the tool rotates. The forward working portion comprises a foremost impact region and a cutting edge that slopes rearwardly from the direction of rotation as the edges extend away from the impact region.

An earthworking blade arrangement, such as for a grader or snow plow blade or the like, in which a steel blade is mounted on the lower edge of a moldboard and extends downwardly therefrom while an axially segmented blade is secured to the lower edge of the steel blade and extends downwardly therefrom and is provided with hard wear resistant inserts mounted in the lower edge thereof and which forms the working edge of the blade assembly. Advantageously, the axially segmented member extends a substantial distance upwardly along the back of the steel blade and is bolted thereto.
