A vehicle communication system includes a mobile server unit configured to be operably deployed onboard a first vehicle of a vehicle system. The mobile server unit includes an antenna, a transceiver, and a controller. The controller may control the transceiver to establish a wireless onboard private network with plural mobile client units that are located on other vehicles of the vehicle system, for wireless communications between the vehicles of the vehicle system, while the vehicle system is moving. The mobile server unit may establish the private network in coordination with other mobile server units that are onboard other vehicles in the vehicle system, such that a selected one of the mobile server units may be designated as a master server unit for overall control of the private network, and the other mobile server units are designated as subordinates.

Vehicle communication system

A method is provided that may include receiving a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signal for a moving vehicle and obtaining a position estimation of the vehicle by inputting values of observable characteristics into an artificial intelligence (AI)-based model and receiving the position estimation as an output from the AI-based model. The AI-based model applies different coefficients to the values of the observable characteristics to output the position estimation. The method may also include calculating an error between a location derived from the GNSS signal that may be received and the position estimation obtained from the AI-based model, and changing one or more of the coefficients applied to the observable characteristics in the AI-based model based on the error that is calculated.

Control system and method for determining vehicle system position

A vehicle control system includes a portable operator control unit (OCU). The OCU includes a housing, a power supply inside the housing, a controller inside the housing, and a wireless communication unit attached to the housing. The controller is configured to generate control signals for controlling a vehicle from an off-board location of the OCU. The wireless communication unit is configured to wirelessly communicate the control signals to the vehicle over an LTE network.

The mobile server unit may be configured to establish the private LTE network in coordination with other mobile server units that are onboard other vehicles in the vehicle system, such that a selected one of the mobile server units is designated as a master server unit for overall control of the private LTE network, and the other mobile server units are designated as subordinates.
