A method and system for extrapolating a sampling rate from received digital cells in an integrated services hub in residential or business telecommunication systems. The system is implemented by a CPU controlling the hub operations. An input buffer is implemented by the CPU and its RAM. The CPU generates a fill level indicating the relative capacity of the buffer that is filled with samples not yet coupled to a CODEC. The CPU produces a divisor based on the fill level. A baud rate generator in the CPU uses the CPU local clock and the divisor to produce a sample rate at which buffer samples are coupled to the CODEC. The divisor is adjusted to maintain the fill level within a desired range. The sample rate is also used to sample analog signals coupled to the CODEC.

Method and apparatus for synchronizing the coding and decoding of information in an integrated services hub

The present invention discloses a system for buffering the outputs of peripheral devices operating in UTOPIA protocol to allow devices on separate circuit boards connected through long buses, such as backplanes, to communicate with the system controller. Address detection logic stores the peripheral device address and compares it to the UTOPIA bus address signal. When the correct address is recognized in a first clock cycle, a flip flop stores the information for the next cycle. A second flip flop stores the state of the read enable signal. An AND gate detects when the correct address was found and the read enable was de-asserted during the first clock cycle and the read enable and read cell available signals are positive during the current clock cycle and provides a high signal to a third flip flop. On a third clock cycle the third flip flop enables the outputs of a data buffer which then drives the peripheral device data signals on to the read data bus. The third flip flop output and the read enable signal are provided to a second AND gate which feeds back to the third flip flop to maintain its state until the read enable signal is de-asserted. The first flip flop is also used to control a buffer for the read cell available signal from the peripheral device. The third flip flop is also used to control a buffer for the read start of cell signal from the peripheral device.

Backplane utopia bus

A power supply for providing full time electrical power to a customer premises telecommunications hub. The supply includes an AC to DC power converter for converting power from the AC power grid to a DC voltage selected to maintain a backup battery at float voltage. The converter includes a first rectifier section for generating an unregulated DC voltage. This voltage is switched through the primary of an isolation transformer by a pulse width modulated voltage controller. The output of the transformer is connected to a second rectifier circuit and filter to produce a regulated DC output voltage. The regulated voltage is connected to a voltage correction circuit through a divider including a temperature compensator so that the feedback to the voltage controller causes the regulated output voltage to follow the battery float voltage at all temperatures. The unregulated DC voltage is coupled to the voltage controller current limiting input to protect the power supply at high input voltages.

DC power supply and battery charge system

The present invention discloses a method for reducing battery power consumed by an integrated services hub supporting a plurality of telephone lines. The status of power to the integrated services hub is monitored, and upon detecting a failure of primary power, each of the telephone lines is polled to detect an off-hook condition. The status of power to the integrated services hub is monitored while polling, and the polling is stopped upon detecting a return of primary power to the integrated services hub or upon detecting an off-hook condition in one of the telephone lines. Polling is performed by placing one of the telephone lines in a standby state and the remaining telephone lines in a disabled state and monitoring the telephone line in standby state for a predetermined amount of time to detect an off-hook condition. After the predetermined amount of time has lapsed, the monitored telephone line is changed from standby state to disabled state, and the next of the plurality of telephone lines is placed in a standby state, while any remaining telephone lines remain a disabled state. This polling sequence is repeated during active polling.

Method and apparatus for polling telephony line status in an integrated services hub to reduce power consumption

A cost-effective power supply for providing full time electrical power to a customer premises telecommunications hub is disclosed. The supply includes an AC to DC power converter for converting power from the AC power grid to a DC voltage suitable for operating telecommunications equipment and for maintaining a backup battery at a fully charged float voltage. The converter includes a first rectifier section for generating an unregulated DC voltage. This voltage is switched through the primary of an isolation transformer by a pulse width modulated voltage controller. The output of the transformer is connected to a second rectifier circuit and filter to produce a regulated DC output voltage. High efficiency low current power supply and battery charge system

The present invention discloses a power distribution system for circuit boards connected to a backplane in a customer premises telecommunications hub. Each functional board in the system contains its own DC to DC converter for receiving a first DC supply voltage from the backplane and supplying a lower voltage to the circuits on the board. The converter is of the single ended primary inductance converter type having its inductance element positioned between the power switching device and the input power capacitor. The power converter is connected to the main power supply through two pins of a staged or staggered connector on the board. A resistor is connected between the earlier of the two pins to make contact with the main supply. Due to the small size of the input resistor required for the converter, the input capacitor can almost fully charge before the second pin, which connects directly to the converter input, makes contact.
