The method can include directing a first acoustic signal and a second acoustic signal towards a gas path in a turbine; receiving the first acoustic signal and the second acoustic signal at a downstream gas path location; combining the first acoustic signal and the second acoustic signal to create a combined acoustic signal, wherein the combined acoustic signal forms at least one of either a signal maxima or a signal minima; and based at least in part on the combined acoustic signal, determining a temperature of the gas path.

Systems and methods for measuring temperature in a gas turbine using acoustic interference

Systems and methods for measuring temperature in a gas turbine are disclosed. The method can include directing a first acoustic signal towards a gas path in a turbine; directing a second acoustic signal towards the gas path in the turbine; receiving the first acoustic signal and the second acoustic signal at a downstream gas path location; combining the first acoustic signal and the second acoustic signal to create a combined acoustic signal, where a portion of the first acoustic signal cancels out a portion of the second acoustic signal; and determining a temperature of the gas path based at least in part on the combined acoustic signal.

A method of determining the temperature inside a combustion liner without making a direct measurement of the actual temperature. The technique is based on a measurement of the frequency of one of the transverse acoustic modes occurring inside the combustion chamber. The frequency is determined from the transverse geometric dimensions of the combustion chamber and the speed of sound in the gas inside the combustion chamber. The speed of sound in the gas is known from thermodynamics to be a function of gas temperature and gas properties. Thus, from a measurement of the resonant frequency and knowing the combustor dimensions and gas properties, the temperature can be determined with accuracy.

A dynamic pressure probe includes a holder body having a first passage therein adapted to receive a pressure signal, a pressure sensor including at least a pressure sensing portion located within a sleeve seated within a pressure sensor housing portion, the sleeve engaged with a wall of the housing portion; the pressure sensor including a diaphragm having one face exposed to a pressure chamber within the sleeve between the pressure sensor and the wall; wherein an aperture in the wall of the housing connects the pressure chamber to the first passage; and wherein the first passage continues axially beyond the aperture in a flow direction an acoustic damping coil wound about a vertical axis.

In one embodiment, the invention is a pressure sensor calibration system comprising a pressure chamber in fluid communication with a pressure sensor to be calibrated, the chamber is pressurized to a static pressure level. An oscillating surface on a wall of the chamber imparts a rapid pressure fluctuation in the static pressure level of the chamber. These rapid pressure fluctuations in a high-static pressure level chamber are used to calibrate the pressure sensor.
