The present invention relates to a modified Slmyc2 gene, which may comprise at least one modification as compared to the wild type sequence of SEQ ID No. 5, which modification leads to the reduction or absence of SlMYC2 protein activity, wherein the modified Slmyc2 gene is capable of conferring an aberrant glandular hair phenotype to aplant. The modification may be suitably selected from a modification that decreases the mRNA level of the Slmyc2 gene, a modification that decreases the level of the SlMYC2 protein and/or a modification that decreases the activity of the SlMYC2 protein, as compared to the wild type Slmyc2 gene of SEQ ID No. 5.

Tomato plants allowing the establishment of mites

The invention relates to a tomato plant the fruits of which have an improved shelf-life as compared to the fruits of a wild type tomato plant, obtainable by introgressing the increased shelf life trait from the mutant LePQ58 (deposit accession number NCIMB 41531) into a tomato plant with a normal shelf-life. The increased shelf-life may comprise a fruit that shows normal ripening having a fruit firmness at red ripe harvest that is increased by at least 31%, preferably by at least 42%, more preferably by at least 52%, even more preferably by at least 60%, most preferably by at least 70% as compared to a fruit having similar genetic background that lacks the trait of the invention.

Tomato with improved shelf-life

The present invention relates to a tomato plant (L.) in which the glandular heads of type VI trichomes are absent, and that has a modified composition of flavonoids and volatiles. Furthermore, the typical tomato smell is absent or nearly absent. The plant comprises a mutant allele, which is obtainable from a tomato plant, representative seed of which was deposited under deposit accession number NCIMB 41845. The said mutant allele is located on chromosome 9 between positions 1750800 bp and 4517648 bp, preferably between positions 1939546 bp and 2970346 bp, most preferably at about position 2454946 bp on a physical map of thegenome.

Such tomato plant may be obtainable by crossing plants, representative seed of which was deposited with the NCIMB under accession number NCIMB 41626, NCIMB 41627, NCIMB 41628, NCIMB 41629, NCIMB 41630 or NCIMB 41631, with a plant not showing the trait to obtain an F1 population; selfing plants from the F1 population to obtain an F2 population; preventing pollination of the F2 plants and allowing fruit formation to occur; and selecting plants producing fruits as plants showing fertilization independent fruit formation. The invention further relates to parthenocarpic fruits, seeds of the plants and propagation material of the plant.
