In one embodiment, a method includes receiving at a thermal modeling module, data from a Power Sourcing Equipment device (PSE) for cables extending from the PSE to Powered Devices (PDs), the cables configured to transmit power and data from the PSE to the PDs, calculating at the thermal modeling module, thermal characteristics for the cables based on the data, and identifying a thermal rise above a specified threshold at one of the cables. The data comprises real-time electrical data for the cables. An apparatus and logic are also disclosed herein.

A method of operating a system-on-chip (SOC) including decrypting, by isolated Root of Trust (RoT) code, a Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) license code from a host during bootup of a device. Then validating, by the isolated RoT code, the SKU license code with firmware and at least one built-in key of a plurality of built-in keys from secure storage. Finally, enabling or disabling, by the isolated RoT code, at least one feature set of a plurality of feature sets comprising resources configured at the SOC based on at least one SKU license code which has been decrypted by isolated RoT code using at least one built-in key and authenticated by firmware.

A system includes a millimeter (MM) wave radar detector, where the MM wave radar detector generates signal data associated with a person of interest (POI) within a field of view of the MM wave radar detector. The system further includes an Access Point (AP) coupled with the MM wave radar detector. Safety monitoring for cables transmitting data and power

A firmware protection module implements a hybrid firmware protection scheme on a computing device. The firmware protection module intercepts a message from a processor to a memory of the computing device. The message includes a command and an address in the memory corresponding to a firmware module stored in the module. The firmware protection module determines whether the command in the message is prohibited and whether the address in the message is protected. Responsive to a determination that the command is prohibited and the address is protected, the firmware protection module prevents at least a portion of the message from reaching the memory.

In one embodiment, a method includes grouping a plurality of ports at power sourcing equipment in a Power over Ethernet (PoE) system, the ports receiving power from at least one power supply, and transmitting power from the group of ports at the power sourcing equipment to a plurality of ports at a power interface module. The power transmitted at each of the ports is at least 100 watts and the power interface module is operable to combine the power received at the ports and provide an AC outlet. A set of network communications devices shares available power among themselves to meet overall system power loading. An individual device is configured to include a local power supply delivering power to a local power bus at a local supply voltage varied in response to a voltage control signal. A protection component is connected between the local power bus and an external power cable used to connect the device to another device for sharing power. The protection component provides an interruptible low-impedance DC path for carrying current based on direction and magnitude of a voltage difference between the local power bus and the external power cable. Control circuitry is used to: (a) drive a current-sharing bus connected among the devices to influence a value of a system current-sharing signal indicating a level of system power loading among the devices; (b) generate a difference signal indicating a difference between local power loading of the local power supply and the system power loading reflected by the system current-sharing signal; and (c) generate the voltage control signal based on the difference signal to achieve a predetermined sharing of the system power loading by the local power supply.
