Methods and apparatus to control heating based on monitoring feedback of temperature sensors are disclosed. An example heating apparatus includes: a heater configured to apply heat energy to an object; and control circuitry configured to: control the heater based on a target temperature to which the object is to be heated; in response to determining that a first measured temperature sample associated with a first temperature sensor is greater than a first reference temperature, updating a first temperature range and the first reference temperature based on the first measured temperature sample; and in response to determining that a second measured temperature sample associated with the first temperature sensor is not within the first temperature range, reduce the priority of the first temperature sensor for control of applying the heat energy to the object.

Methods and apparatus to control heating based on monitoring feedback of temperature sensors

Provided is a system for controlling heating of a workpiece that includes an interface to receive a target temperature (T) for the workpiece. A processor is configured to determine, based on monitoring outputs of temperature sensor(s), a current highest temperature (T) for the workpiece and set a control temperature (T) based on the received target temperature and the current highest temperature. A control system is configured to heat the workpiece to substantially the control temperature (T) by turning on a heating device, and turning off the heating device when the workpiece reaches substantially the control temperature (T). The processor is further configured to characterize a temperature ramp rate based on a measured temperature overshoot at the workpiece after turning off the heating device, and the control system is configured to heat the workpiece to the received target temperature (T) by controlling the heating device based on the temperature ramp rate.

Method and apparatus for temperature characterization in welding

An example system for controlling heating of a workpiece includes: an interface configured to receive a target temperature (T) for the workpiece; a processor configured to: select a current temperature (T) for the workpiece based on monitoring one or more temperature sensors; and set a control temperature (T) based on the received target temperature and T; and a control system configured to: control heating of the workpiece via a heating device until the workpiece reaches Tas measured by at least one of the one or more temperature sensors, and controlling the heating device to stop heating the workpiece in response to the workpiece reaching T; wherein: the processor is configured to characterize a temperature ramp rate based on a measured temperature overshoot at the workpiece after turning off the heating device; and the control system is configured to control heating of the workpiece to Tby controlling the heating device based on the temperature ramp rate.
