Methods and apparatus for transmitting service information in a neighborhood of peer-to-peer communication groups are disclosed. A peer-to-peer client device connects to a peer-to-peer communication group via a peer-to-peer group owner. The peer-to-peer client generates a service notification including a category and a sub-category and transmits the service notification to the first peer-to-peer group owner. The first peer-to-peer group owner then forwards the service notification (a) to a first group member that is associated with the category and the sub-category, and (b) to a second group member that is identified as a first bridge and is associated with the category.

Methods and apparatus for transmitting service information in a neighborhood of peer-to-peer communication groups

Disclosed are methods for delivering data () to a wireless station (). An access point (), or any other suitable device or system, receives a plurality of association requests () from a plurality of wireless stations () and transmits a different association identifier () to each of the plurality of wireless stations (). The access point () buffers data () for a subset of the wireless stations (). If the number of wireless stations () with buffered data () at the access point () is less than a threshold, then the access point () transmits a list of association identifiers indicating that buffered data () are held for each wireless station () identified by the list. If the number of wireless stations () with buffered data () at the access point () is not less than the threshold, then the access point () transmits data indicative of a range of association identifiers indicating that buffered data () are held for at least one wireless station () identified by the range.

Delivering data to a wireless station

A wireless local area network (WLAN) provides wireless service to a collective comprising multiple remote units (RUs) by use of a collective association identifier (AID) assigned to, and shared by, the multiple RUs. The WLAN then uses the collective association identifier AID to identify transmissions of common data to the multiple remote units. Furthermore, the WLAN provides for a serving AP to store, for the collective as a whole, shared data rather than individually storing such data in association with each remote unit (RU) in the collective. The WLAN further provides for RUs to establish a link with their serving AP in order to exchange data sourced by, or intended for, their associated non-RF service provider, and for the AP then to establish a separate AP-to-service provider link to exchange the data, rather than the RU being required to establish an end-to-end link with the service provider.

Method and apparatus for providing wireless service to a collective of remote units by a wireless local area network

Methods and apparatus for transmitting data between different peer-to-peer communication groups are disclosed. A wireless device determines if it is simultaneously connected to a plurality of peer-to-peer communication groups and instantiates a bridge interface at the wireless device (e.g., TRILL RBridge) for communications between each peer-to-peer communication group. The wireless device also determines if it is simultaneously connected to at least one peer-to-peer communication device and an access point. In such an instance, the wireless device determines if the access point also includes a bridge interface. If the access point does not include a bridge interface, the wireless device instantiates/runs the bridge interface at the wireless device for communications between the at least one peer-to-peer communication device and the access point. If the access point does include a bridge interface, the wireless device causes the bridge interface at the access point to be instantiated for communications between the at least one peer-to-peer communication device and the access point.

Methods and apparatus for transmitting data between different peer-to-peer communication groups

A method performed by an apparatus includes scanning at least one of multiple radio frequencies using at least two beamforming antennas of a plurality of beamforming antennas coupled to the eyewear and detecting, on a first scanned radio frequency, first externally emitted radio energy. The method further includes identifying a first wireless device using the detected first externally emitted radio energy and determining a first direction of the first wireless device relative to the eyewear.

In an embodiment, an access point (), or any other suitable device or system, receives a first application identifier from a first wireless station () at an access point () (e.g., receive a URL from a temperature sensor). The access point () then downloads and/or activates a software application to the access point () from a first server () based on the first application identifier (e.g., download a temperature measurement application based on the URL). The access point () issues a command to the first wireless station () based on the software application (e.g., send temperature measurement and sleep instructions to the temperature sensor). The access point () also receives first data from the first wireless station () (e.g., receive temperature measurements from the sensor). The access point () transmits the first data to at least one of the first server () and a second different server () (e.g., send the temperature measurements back to the server).

A communication system provides for an informing of participants in a Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) communication session that the session is being recorded by a recording device, for a storage, by the recording device, of media that conveyed during the session, and for a subsequent retrieval of the stored media from the recording device. In various embodiments of the invention, a host of the communication session is permitted to determine whether or not the recording device is permitted access to the communication session, and the other participants in the session are able to determine whether to remain in the session when the recording device is permitted access. A user of an MS on behalf of whom the recording device is participating is then able to retrieve the stored media along with information identifying a source of the media and a time associated with the storage of the media.

The present invention is a data network system () and method for responding to a communication message with a canned reply by a target user of a target client device (one of-). The data network system comprises a messaging server () and a messaging proxy () coupled to the messaging server. Initially, the target client device or, more particularly, the target user, configures one or more canned replies for the system. The messaging proxy then receives () a communication message from an originating client device (another one of-) and retrieves () configuration data of the target client device. Next, the messaging proxy determines () whether the target client device is available for interactive communication with the originating client device based on the configuration data. If the target client device is available for interactive communication with the originating client device, then the messaging proxy routes () the communication message to the target client device. The invention is a data network system () and method for forwarding a communication message intended for one device to another device. A target user of a target device (one of-) configures configuration data of the target device for the system. The configuration information includes one or more forwarding lists in which each forwarding list identifies at least one next device (another one of-). The system then receives () a communication message from an originating device (yet another one of-) and retrieves () configuration data of the target device. A method and apparatus for providing multimodal communication outputs information, such as retrieved content, in a first modality. An output modality change command is generated, such as via a multimodal user input interface, or other suitable mechanism. A multimodal communication apparatus and method then reprovides the previously output information as reprovided information in a different output modality in response to receiving the output modality change command. Accordingly, a user or unit may have content delivered in one modality and redelivered in a different preferred modality or modalities. Accordingly, a user or device may request output modalities dynamically so that content can be delivered using a different user preference after the content has already been provided in a first modality.
